Hi all, I just found out going into Extensions, enable developer mode, press update and the problem will go away

"Additional permissions are required to upgrade the add-on. Go to the add-on manager to accept the upgrade."
I get a message like this, but when I go to the plug-in manager there is no warning. This message goes blank every time I start the opera. What should I do?

Not sure what this Rich Hints Agent is, but let's try to update. -

Hello
This morning I started getting this message at the top of the browser window: "The extension upgrade required additional permissions. Go to the extensions manager to accept the upgrade" The message is accompanied with "Go to Extensions" button.
OK, I said, let's do it! Let's go to the manager and accept the upgrade. I clicked the button and, expectedly, it opened the "Extensions" page.
And? What's next?
I don't see any extensions labelled for update/upgrade there. The page looks as usual. Nothing indicates any pending actions waiting for my permission. What am I supposed to do next? Where do I "accept the upgrade"?

@AltairAssassins No such message here on Opera Stable 72, Opera Developer 73 or Opera GX 71. So I will ask again: Where and when you see that message? The text make it looks like something coming from a site.

I don't have Rich HInts Agent showing on my extensions page yet I also have the notification. Also --show-component-extension-options has no effect here.
All this chatter yet it isn't enough to awaken a single mod. Strange.

@Keepskite --show-component-extension-options is what will make Rich Hints extension visible.
And by the way, mods are just users and they replying here or not is totally irrelevant. Also, this is a minor issue.

@leocg I disagree. Eight hidden extensions that I cannot disable, all with intrusive permissions that I did not grant is not a minor issue. This shakes my confidence in Opera in a way I did not think possible. This is not a minor privacy issue. I should think Opera would realize that.

Mine too.

No external site/link or url related. Please see screenshot.
This message also does not, only popup in SpeedDial. It's constant all over if one have it. And considering the reports that started to flow in, this is more then likely an issue for many, but also apparently not with everyone.

@Keepskite I don't have any more extensions installed than before.
This might be a bug that will be done with the next update. -

@Keepskite The issue is the banner asking for permissions showing up.

Same every time it opens on every computer, and only enabled extension is the add filter

Keepskite last edited by 22 Oct 2020, 18:11
@mathias87 Have you started Opera with the "--show-component-extension-options" command? I didn't think I had hidden extensions either until I started with that command.

This is not real or?
Hm... Hidden permissions and extensions... Lets look what the consumer advice center says to this. -
Keepskite last edited by 22 Oct 2020, 18:13
@leocg Yes but that banner reveals that hidden extensions exist, extensions that none of us realized were there.

@leocg said in Extension upgrade requires additional permissions...:
@Keepskite The issue is the banner asking for permissions showing up.
Which has brought to light another, more serious issue, of hidden extensions installed without the user's permission which cannot be disabled.

@rafiki indeed, why do I have an aliexpress spying on me and bloating the browser? Perhaps it is time to move to greener pastures.

@Keepskite No, I just did and updated that "Rich Hints Agent" extension.
If this makes the bar with the message disappear, then I'm fine with it.
