Why would this have been done? It's quite clear this move goes against what the majority of the community wants.
Look, Opera is "free as beer" software - that means (amongst other things) that community doesn't matter. We as Opera users are product, Google and other big fishes are customers. Apparently adding YASO (Yet Another Search Option) allows to gather more sellable information about product's (our) behavior
At least they added closed tabs part to "Search in tabs" button. If this does work as previous button, then no big trouble.

For any devs reading this, just here to add another voice of dissatisfaction to a feature that they did not need to change. Wonder where they get their ideas for changes and where the threads about changing the recently closed tabs are. Anyways, even more disappointed that they removed the flag to fix their downgrade. The current implementation is very limited and doesn't allow me to see more than 3 closed tabs.

Ok, I (and obviously a lot of other users) absolutely need this button, and as the developers seem to give a f**k on what the users need it's time for me to switch off auto-update function...

@tyllurius How do you do that? I've been searching for that functionality for a while, but I've not seen a flag for it.

The flag that fixed the problem is not working anymore and that damned search in recent tabs button "resurrected itself" with the latest update. The developer behind this this change diserves to be fired And defenestrated!

Just remember that this is a temporary solution.
I hate it as much as everyone else, trust me, but from what I gather, it is what it is. I'm not aware of any channels that would allow us to let developers know what a stupid "feature" this is.

Hi @ZD90, @basemodeldaytona, here it still works in recent Opera stable (69.0.3686.49). Maybe you can recheck if it's set to "Disabled", sometimes flags settings may be changed during the updates.

Wait until you get to version 70.0.3728.8 and then you will see what I am talking about. I use Opera Beta and its already in version 70.0.3728.8. I had to switch to Opera GX (which is currently in version68.0.3618.191) and block the updater to save myself from this idiotic change.

Yes, after the last update of 69.x version the flag opera://flags/#search-in-open-tabs was activated again but you can still disable it.

Operaโs developers know subjects of topics here. Many times I could report some issues for Opera GX these were fixed.

I confirm this, to disable: opera://flags/#search-in-open-tabs is still possible.

Try it in Opera Beta v70.0.3728.8 and tell me if it works because it doesn't.

Bah! It's gone again in O70 and the blog has the nerve to claim "Better access to recently closed tabs"! A pathetic 3 if you search? How that "better" than a simple friendly button?

I think the Opera Devs doesn't care what the community wants.
I found the extension Undo Closed Tabs Button.
With right click on the icon you can fixed the extension on the tool bar.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/simpleundoclose/emhohdghchmjepmigjojkehidlielknjAlthough your extension works, it takes up more real estate on the extensions bar, if the enabled opera://flags/#search-in-closed-tabs would simply show more than 3 of the closed tabs, we'd be back where we were, with the little search icon replacing the old icon that we used to see recently closed tabs from O69 and before. Not sure why developers are being so obstinate in allowing a user to enable this former way to see closed tabs.
