@burnout426 I just did it and it worked. The button is there again at the top bar.
I used it to syc with the tabs on my other devices so it is good to have it back.
Thanks for your help. -

So I changed it back to the 'recently closed tabs' option by disabling the search in tabs option in: opera://flags/#search-in-open-tabs
But I can find use for the 'search in tabs'. Would be nice if I could have them both. Maybe something that could be implemented with the sidebar. There is a tabs function there (with an icon that doesn't make sense to me), why is there no search option there?

Goto the URL
opera://flags/#search-in-open-tabs
, disable the flag, and restart Opera.Literally registered to forums just to thank you.
This change has been frustrating me ever since it was added. I never keep too many tabs around to make search feature useful in any way, but the option to easily restore a tab other than the last one - was one of my favorite opera features. -

I just noticed that in the latest version of the browser they have removed the button for recently closed tabs and replaced it with an useless search button for active tabs. Is there any possibility to get back that useful feature? And no, I am not gonna browse the History for the tabs I just closed, it's dumb. Can I roll back to a previous version of the browser or just hope it gets added again?

Hi all, I have always appreciated the tab menu which appears on the right side of the tab bar (as shown down below in the picture) and i can reopen closed tabs quickly through it. However after I updated my opera to the latest version, the tab menu button was replaced by [Search in Tabs]. Can anyone tell me is there something I can do to bring the tab menu back? Or is it just set by Opera team??? Thank you!

I just extra created an acoount just to reply here to say that the removal of the "recently closed tabs" button is the worst decision in whole opera history. This button was THE reason why I have always used Opera instead of Firefox or Chrome and I use Opera for more than 10 years. And now you removed it....
The new menu-->history way is very bad: way more clicks and much longer way for the mouse pointer and therefore uncomfortable and time wasting.
Adding the new search option is not wrong overall (although I don't need it) but why replacing another more useful thing with that? Do the Opera developers really think that average Opera user is such an dumb person that one button leads to overstraing while using Opera? The absolute minimum would be giving the user an option to decide which buttons he/she wants to have. Thanks for the guys giving the solution with changing the flag but I am very afraid that the flag will be removedn a future version because of "cleaning up the code"... It will be the point where I have to choose a new browser.
Just wanted to say I agree 100% with this. This was the single most useful button of any browser, and I have been going nuts the few days I have been using the new version until I came to find this workaround.
Bring back the old functionality!

Don't often visit these forums as I am mostly indifferent about changes made. This change however feels like a step in the wrong direction.
Please consider reverting to the old functionality or at least expanding the new search feature to include the old feature. Searching through either open or closed tabs as well as the ability to restore closed tabs would be far more useful than the current implementation.

Thankfully the disable flag is still working! This was pretty frustrating when the Recently Closed feature was removed. I'm usually not the type of user that has 20-30 tabs open at the same time, so having the ability to search through current tabs is completely useless to me. Being able to quickly and efficiently reopen a tab that I accidentally closed is great! I'm with others: this new feature doesn't make much sense and seems like a step backwards.

This is a clear message to Opera Developers that you have taken away an essential usability aspect of the browser that users have relied on for years, and are now missing.
Why relocate it to some remote difficult location in the menu hierarchy? Was an incorrect assumption made that the recently closed pages/tabs button was not being used? Based on what data?
As an Opera user since version 3, and long time Developer and usability expert, I do speak up when I see a bad decision, and this is definitely one of them.
Please encourage the Developers to restore this essential feature in the near future. I used it regularly and it's obvious from the overwhelming consensus here, that I'm not alone.
Thank you.

@mrpantz I doubt they will restore it (in near future at least). Maybe 1 or 2 years later they'll deprecate the 'search in tabs' as well because of its unpopularity (like they say now about 'TabMenu' and 'InstantSearch').
For example, according to the latest 69 Dev changelog https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/changelog-for-69/#b3679.0
they tune the OMenu > History way, instead of restoring TabMenu- DNA-85968 [WinLin] Allow restoring individual window tabs from Recently Closed in History menu
- DNA-86150 Add browser tests for restoring recently closed window
*I don't know what 'add browser tests for restoring closed window' does mean here (restoring the feature or just restoring a closed window like it worked for tabs)
