Goto opera://settings/handlers and delete mail.google.com from the list.

Goto opera://settings/siteData, type google.com in the search field and remove all shown.

Close Opera, open it and goto mail.google.com.

Click through different messages and back etc. till you get the pop-up. Then, block it again. Also, confirm that it's in opera://settings/handlers again.

If that still doesn't do the trick, I wonder if an extension or adblocker is interfering with something.

I tested myself in Opera and with it blocked, I don't see the pop-up anymore.

        @burnout426

Thank you for replying to my post.

I went to opera://settings/handlers and all that is listed is the 'Privacy and Security' section with 'Allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols (recommended) and it is set on 'On.'

'Mail.google.com' was already removed from the list.

I went to opera://settings/siteData and login.live.com (6 cookies) and mg.mail.yahoo.com (File System) have trash can icons beside them.

        Please advise.

By the way, the pop-up is only displayed when signing into Gmail. It is not displayed again during the email session or if I sign out and sign back in using the same tab.

However, it is displayed if I close the window and open a new window and sign in.

Yes, I do have an adblocker in Opera (as I do with all my browsers) and would prefer to leave it turned on.

Type google.com in the search field there and choose "remove all shown".

I went to opera://settings/siteData and typed google.com in the search field but it stated 'no search results found.'

I signed into Gmail and the pop-up came up before an email was even opened.

The pop-up is only displayed when signing into Gmail after opening a new Opera window. It. is not displayed in Opera or Firefox when signing into Hotmail or Yahoo.

@sporty78 Hotmail and Yahoo probably aren't asking to be mailto handlers.

'mail.google.com wants to open email links: Allow or Block' in the top left corner after signing into Gmail using Opera.

@sporty78 The problem happens with a clean Opera profile?

The pop-up only appears when signing into Gmail using Opera (I do not even get as far an opening an email) using a new window.

The the pop-up does not re-appear if I sign out of Opera and sign in again using the same tab,

@sporty78 A broken profile may be causing the problem, that's why you need to check with a clean profile.

                                    The link was unhelpful.

All it states is 'Take note of the path to the profile directory (see above), then go there using your OS file explorer and rename the directory so Opera will create a new one on next start.'

Is this the link you intended to paste: https://forums.opera.com/topic/25420/how-to-create-a-clean-profile-directory?

If so, what should the 'Opera Stable' directory be renamed and does the computer need to be rebooted for the change to take effect?

@sporty78 The link wasn't unhelpful, it's clear enough on how to create a clean profile. And also says how to find the path to the profile folder.

Just rename it and no, the computer doesn't need to be rebooted.

I changed Opera Stable to Opera Browser, closed Windows Explorer, re-opened Opera, and the welcome page was displayed.

I signed back into Gmail but the pop-up did not appear.

Can the directory name be changed back to Opera Stable in the future or is the new directory name permanent?

@sporty78 You can delete that new profile folder and then rename the old one back to its original name but it probably will bring the problem back.

The old directory 'Opera Stable ' and the new directory 'Opera Browser' are listed in the directory path in Windows Explorer.

                                            1. Should the old directory 'Opera Stable' (and all of its contents) be deleted?

                                            2. Can the newly-created directory be renamed 'Opera Stable' or will that bring the problem back?
