How Do I Get Advanced Features Back in Opera 22?

Which features are you talking about? Maybe some of them are already obtainable via the extensions.
I'm talking about for example the built in mail feature. How can this be brought back to Opera 22?

Opera for years has unfortunately had most of its advanced features stripped away. ...
Are you suggesting "most of its advanced features" were stripped away even back in the later Presto versions (12 and below), since Blink Opera (version 15 and above) has only been out for about a year? If so, which features are you referring to?
You really dont know. I see youre new to Opera. Just to let you know, Opera years ago had very good advanced features that you can tinker with through its 'Preferences'. Unfortunately, starting 2 or 3 years ago Opera started to change the browser to Chrome and in the process, it removed cool features. Most likely, the company is doing this for some future speculation from a sale to a prospective company willing to pay millions for it. INothing is sacred anymore.
For example, they removed the built-in mail which was the most convenient way to check mail on ANY browser. Opera used to be the best browser in the world until these stupid greedy changes occured. I wish the mail feature would come back.

Mail will not come back. Browsers with integrated email clients are past.

Stupid greedy changes? Give me a break!!! Opera is not a charitable organization, If they can't make a profit, they can't exist. This is the real world, not some fanstasy for a user who wants a free browser with every feature they can dream of. Opera has to pay a staff, and do tons of work, just to provide a browser for you (and wonder of wonders, you get it at no charge). So enough with the stupid and greedy garbage. My understanding is there is a separate Opera mail program you can use with Opera 22, but it's not clear whether Opera will continue to support it. ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/mail/1.0/win/
If you like having a mail program you can open in Opera 22 tabs, you might want to think about web mail, like gmail or Outlook mail. Some people think Thunderbird is a pretty good email program. I use Thunderbird mail (and am one of those people), and for the pleasure of opening a mail program in Opera tabs, I also use gmail. I like them both.

But the last Presto Opera version with meaningful changes was 12.14, released only about 18 months ago. A couple of security updates have been issued since, bringing the Presto version to 12.17 around 12 months ago. The first Blink Opera version (15, with greatly altered features) didn't emerge until a year ago. Your time description is exaggerated, for if it were accurate, it implies features "stripped out of Opera years ago" would have had to be stripped out of the last multiple Presto versions as well - which is simply not true. You may not care for the changes implemented in the Blink browser versions, but exaggeration and accusations help nobody and instead undercut the credibility of what else you have to say.
Moreover, to argue that Opera has made "greedy" changes is to utterly ignore the reality that the browser has been free for many years... and it remains so. You may use the browser, but it's Opera's design to do with as they wish. You may be frustrated as, indeed, some users are... but please remain rational.

I missed M2 at first, but Opera Mail as a stand alone client is just the same as M2 and all your M2 emails, addresses, labels etc are copied across when you install it.

What baffles me is why Presto Opera users can't simply keep on using the built-in mail client in whatever version they have already installed... they don't even have to install the stand-alone M2 client. Moreover, they don't even need to use the browser functionality itself... just direct it to a blank or nearly-blank htm file on their own computer and set Opera to open with that. Voila! No installation, no lost files, no mail importing, no web exposure with an aging browser (unless they specifically want to)... the mail function's already there.

Here are some features that I have used that I am unable to easily figure out how to do in Opera 22.
-
I want to open an html or PDF file on my hard drive. I do not see a simple file open dialog anywhere. If I type C: in my address bar I get to the C: drive and I can browse down to the file I want. This is not too transparent and takes longer than a dialog for this purpose, particularly one that remembers that last directory location you used.
-
In previous versions of Opera, on an open file you could do a "view page source" and then edit and save that file directly in opera. I used this function quite often. I don't see any buttons to do this after viewing page source.
-
In previous versions you could easily customize the location of featuers and toolbars such as having the address bar at the bottom and having toolbars show text instead of images. I had been using that feature for 12 years and I don't see it anymore.
-
You could customize Speed Dial to show however many columns and rows you want and customize the size of the buttons. Now it seems opera controls this and I don't have the buttons the size I want. Sometimes they are quite tiny.
-
I can't remove Google search from the Speed Dial.
-
I don't see any manage bookmarks functionality. I believe there probably is some replacement like the stash. Maybe it'll be as easy to use but I don't know. I have 100's of bookmarks that I've easily managed the old way and I expect it'll be a significant amount of work to move them to the new system. I doubt it'll improve things too much because it was always pretty quick to do stuff the old way.
I've only been using Opera 22 for two days. This is a start but I'm sure there's more. I'm glad they still have single key shortcuts though they've named it something different in settings.
I appreciate that Opera maintained advanced capabilities for 12 years and resisted changing the browser with every release to meet each passing fad or trend. Based on this I hope they will get these things right. At minimum there needs to be a transition guide detailing each feature they had and what they did with it, plan to do with it or what they are going to drop.

People can't respond 100 times to the same inquiry, so search the forum a bit first. On removing the Google Search bar from the Speed Dial page, it's simple to do. This discussion was yesterday, and is still on the first page of this forum.
https://forums.opera.com/topic/3419/speed-dial-google-search/3
I use the Opera extension called, "PDF Viewer." https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/pdf-viewer/
It opens pdf files in a browser tab. You could also use an Adobe reader with Opera 22. Now I open pdf files I find on the internet in the PDF Viewer. I'm not sure about opening PDF files in your computer with it. In the Opera Menu, it would be nice if there were a "file" to click on, to open something in your computer, but there isn't. It seems to be a lacking, unless I'm missing something. The only way I can open things on my computer is to type the in-computer address in the address bar to find them. I wish there were an easier way, so if someone knows it, let me know.On managing bookmarks, you do want to first of all go to Alt.P, and put a check in "Show bookmarks Bar." Then, I'd get the Opera extension called "add bookmark"
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/add-bookmark/?display=en
and a Chrome bookmarks manager. I recommend either Chrookmarks for Chrome,
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrookmarks-chrome-bookma/kcdheengilgkagjehknnnofigbmlnnfj?hl=enor Neater Bookmarks.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/neater-bookmarks/ofgjggbjanlhbgaemjbkiegeebmccifi?hl=en
These will give you a vertical display of your bookmarks if you click on the extension icon for them. They can also help with editing and managing them. At some point, you might want to try them both and decide what's best for you.
To install a Chrome extension, all you need is the Opera Extension called, "Download Chrome Extension."
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/?display=en
I can't quite follow what you mean about buttons and the Speed Dial. You can adjust the size of your Speed Dial folders by using normal zoom features like 0, or 9 (as long as you have activated advanced features), or +, or -, or just use ctrl and the middle wheel of the mouse. When I go to settings (Alt P), I can adjust for the Speed Dial, the thumbnail width and height also, though I may have did something in advanced settings, etc. to give me that possibility.

I see youre the type who follows others no matter what. If you want to be a conformist then dont hate others who arent. Opera WAS a dream browser that had it all.. duhhh. In case you dont know, software was made to customize it the way users want it, not what devs want since devs create software keeping the end user in mind. Just because you kiss Opera devs ass doesnt mean that others must follow your weakness. So, be a real man and stop hating others for not being followers like you or wanting something in a browser they desire. BTW, there is a standalone email client by Opera. Thats how much you know about a browser you think you know about.
Why would I downgrade by using Thurderbird or Outlook when Opera had the best interface for mail? You got a lot to learn.

Actually, xxlook, I prefer Opera 22, and I did use Opera 12.17 for years. I mean, it's all of question of taste. What I took issue with in your earlier post, was the language, "stupid, greedy changes," in reference to the Opera company/developer as it seemed highly inappropriate, and offensive. You know, it was language lacking in common sense, and good taste. Opera was a "dream" browser for you, and for some others. But don't generalize it to everyone. As for the rest of your insulting post, it's not worth a comment, as it speaks volumes about you.

@xxlook : For that matter, if Opera has such a superior interface for mail, why not just keep on using it via a Presto Opera version? Who says you even have to use the browser part of the suite?
You tell a poster he should be a man, that he should stop kissing Opera's a**, that he has a lot to learn, that his opinions represent personal weakness... and you accuse him of "hating others"?
Wow... just, wow. What ever happened to forum civility? (No, you don't have to respond to that... it's a rhetorical question.)

Anyone not new to Opera would know this. I personally think youre new to Opera.@xxlook: Because you made a patently false claim (at least on its surface) that the Opera features were stripped out of Opera versions at a time point (2-3 years ago) when active development of Presto Opera versions was still underway, and your "missing" features were still present and being further developed... Blink wasn't even on the horizon, since Blink Opera desktop development didn't occur until well after the start of the timeframe you claimed. Your time description clearly "doesn't wash"...and I challenged your exaggeration. In reality, if you've been lurking in this forum and its MyOpera predecessor for any length time, you would have known all that... as you would also know that I've been active in one or the other Opera forums for years.

And thats cool. If you prefer the new browser compared to the old one that had better and more features, then thats your right. I can care less about what you think of my opinion. As far I'm concerned, the words echoes what many think of Opera and were not offensive at all. They were offensive only to YOU. If they were "highly offensive and inappopriate" to YOU then I suggest you throw away your PC and TV and close yourself off to the rest of the world since there are even harsher words out there that will give you a heart attack. Words like "screwy, hate, and idiotic" may give you a heart attack so we wouldnt want that. You know, you need to be a real man in todays world since guys less than that dont last long.
