By the way, about video issues, it's ages since Opera doesn't play correctly videos from smartphones in Facebook Messenger. It works in Chrome! But no one cares...

@leocg I told you many times. The fact is Opera is based on Chromium, so, it is supposed to work like in Chrome...

I'm also on Win 8.1 and I have various results in different browsers (Chrome, FireFox, Vivaldi, Edge Canary on chromium).
With hardware acceleration ON it does work nowhere (small difference is in FireFox where the black screen is appearing when I click 'play' button, in other browsers no response)
With hardware acceleration OFF it plays correctly only in Chrome. It also plays in Edge, but with freezes (not smooth). In FireFox and Vivaldi is the same result as with acceleration off. -

@andrew84 you have Edge on W.8.1, if yes, how?
same here, tried hardware acceleration (HA) off, on all browsers i have (opera, firefox, and recently brave), but no luck, only chrome and brave with OFF HA plays.
can you confirm if you want? on this (emojis) page, it shows all the emojis, or some is squares? -

Please note if necessary.

I mean the MS Edge that is based on Chromium engine (Stable version is not available yet as far as I know, but Beta, Dev, Canary is available. I have Canary installed). I don't mean Edge that comes with Win 10.

I made a mistake in my post in last sentence. I wanted to say 'In FireFox and Vivaldi is the same result as with acceleration on'. There was no possibility to edit the post to fix it.
So, with HA on it doesn't play in all my browsers, with HA off it plays fine in Chrome only. In Edge it also plays, but freezing.@panosv said in Some media on Twitter do not work:
emojis
Only in FireFox I can see all the emoji.
In all other browsers I see that some (many of them actually) are squares (doesn't matter if HA is on or off) -

This is a direct link to video:
https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1115643600719818757/pu/vid/640x352/BEEPEYSFlB9xNTDZ.mp4Opera uses the Windows Media Foundation (as opposed to ffmpeg like Chrome) to play h.264 videos like this. For it to work in Opera, it needs to work in Windows Media Player first and be supported by WMF (a DirectShow plug-in on Windows won't do it). Then it should work.
If you have an "N" version of Windows 8, you might need https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2929699/media-feature-pack-for-windows-8-1-n-and-windows-8-1-kn-editions-april.
However, I don't know Opera's status of support for Windows 8.1 and WMF. Maybe it only works for Win7 and Win10.
Test to see if the video works in Windows Media Player first.
You could also test in Vivaldi for another comparison. You just can't compare with Chrome or Chromium built with "all codecs".
thanks!

@panosv I'm on same OP system. Windows 8.1 and some gif videos and others don't work. I am always using private browser. Maybe that's it. Many videos work but not all. G Chrome works but I like Opera. Just letting you know and or anyone on the same OP .

I moved to Dissenter: problems solved.
Bye, Opera. It was a good time but your gaz factory is messing too much!

@panosv Not as fast as Opera -- Opera is the fastest browser, imho -- but videos work, everything works fine on Windows 7. That fits me. I don't want to switch to Windows 10 and have issues at every updates... Windows 7 is the sh*t, really. Too bad Opera team gives no consideration to my issues. I love Opera but I'm really fed up to be forced to open Dissenter to watch videos. Cheers, guys!

Guys, it's not a Windows problem. I have Linux (Ubuntu 18) and am having the same issue.
This should be the #1 priority for Opera. Nobody wants a browser that can't play videos in 2019. That's embarrassing.

Opera finally lost another user, moving to dissenter browser now.
If a issue which is so critical can't be solved then, you guys don't deserve it.
Also Opay is indirectly owned by opera and it is also has a predatory practices too. No doubt opera doesnt have any real user base.
