Create a new Opera profile directory and check if the problem still happens.

      Is sync enabled?

@leocg Thanks for the info. I have my browser configured exactly the way I want it so I think I'll pass on a new start even though I can bring all my "stuff" over from another browser. Someday I'll stumble across why this was happening. In the meantime, I'll just delete the ad blocker when I notice it. It's not hurting anything.

The idea is just to check if the problem happens with a clean profile. If so then another cause needs to be found. And if it doesn't then you can try to find out if there is a setting or extension causing the problem.

@leocg I know what you are saying. As it's been doing this for some time so I could start by disabling extensions I've had for awhile one at a time to see. I can delete any extension I want except Opera's ad blocker. Not sure why they would force people to use it or be unable to uninstall it so I'm left with this issue. Anyway, like I said thanks for your help. Someday I'll stumble across what is causing this to me only, as it seems. I guess the simple answer would be to disable my paid blocker and use Opera's but I paid for it and want to use it as it covers all my browsers at the same time. Opera's doesn't.

Sorry, but Opera's adblocker will enable itself when it feels like it. I have found this to happen with certain local new sites, and it happened A LOT when I had the "no tracking" turned on. I think there must be some ads that cause it, because some of them would turn OFF adblock plus when I was in IE.

It pretty much cleared up for me when I turned off the no tracker, which is a sad sort of commentary about OL safety and privacy...

@dagnorkle It's probably ads that are doing it. I found my adblackers had a tendency to go wonky from our local news site and just redirected their ad servers to "127.0.0.1" (that's "home", so instead of going to doubleclick's server to pull down the ad, and all the malware with it, the ad just shows blank, because it's trying to get it from my own computer)

Technically, Opera's built-in ad blocker is not an extension.

I can't confirm what you are saying. Here the adblocker never enabled itself.

@leocg Glad I'm not alone in this. Maybe Opera could take a look at this issue for those of us who use another ad blocker. Not saying it's a bad blocker, it's just that right now we don't have a choice and I think we should.

Fill a bug report then, so they can take a look.

@leocg What I've just discovered with this ad blocker issue is that it turns itself on and off depending on the web site I'm on. Someone else mentioned something like this earlier. Not sure if it helps but that's what I've noticed.

@zalex108 It's on extension page to remind people that Opera has an built-in ad-blocker.

Sorry if you already mentioned, but what paid adblocker are you using and does it install itself as an extension in Opera? Or, do you have to run Opera through a proxy that the adblocker sets up?

@burnout426 It's called Adguard. There is a free and paid version. You install it and chose the browsers you have that it will block ads in. The paid version also has many other features too many to list here. It is installed in Windows and sits on the desktop with an icon in all my browsers in the lower right of the screen that lets you pause blocking for 30 seconds on a page (perfect for the pages that tell you to turn your blocker off) and a few other features so I don't need Opera's blocker. The trick is to disable it so it won't keep coming on by itself. Adguard is not an extension but a program.
