AppData is usually a hidden folder. You need to make it visible.

Can you access by typing %appdata% on explorer?

@leocg said in Extension enables itself.:

          %appdata%

There was probably 100 files with this %appdata% and none with Opera attached to it. I give up. Thanks for your help but this is all gotten too much.

%appdata% is a shortcut to C:\Users\dagno\AppData\Roaming, inside of which you should see an Opera Software folder.

And what about my question about adblocker being really enabled or just showing up on extensions page?

@leocg I turn the ad blocker off in the extension page and a few days later it's enabled on the extension page. It is so random that I can't tell what's turning it on. I'm good at figuring these things out but this one is a good one. Don't even know if it turns on while the browser is on or if it's when I open it, or when I do something. Either way, I like Opera and will continue to use it as my daily driver.

Forget extensions, is the adblocker enabled in settings?

Like was said, the adblocker never turns itself on automatically. Don't mess with it in extensions page and everything should be fine.

Create a new Opera profile directory and check if the problem still happens.

                              Is sync enabled?

@leocg Sync is not on. How do I create a new Opera directory?

@leocg Thanks for the info. I have my browser configured exactly the way I want it so I think I'll pass on a new start even though I can bring all my "stuff" over from another browser. Someday I'll stumble across why this was happening. In the meantime, I'll just delete the ad blocker when I notice it. It's not hurting anything.

The idea is just to check if the problem happens with a clean profile. If so then another cause needs to be found. And if it doesn't then you can try to find out if there is a setting or extension causing the problem.

@leocg I know what you are saying. As it's been doing this for some time so I could start by disabling extensions I've had for awhile one at a time to see. I can delete any extension I want except Opera's ad blocker. Not sure why they would force people to use it or be unable to uninstall it so I'm left with this issue. Anyway, like I said thanks for your help. Someday I'll stumble across what is causing this to me only, as it seems. I guess the simple answer would be to disable my paid blocker and use Opera's but I paid for it and want to use it as it covers all my browsers at the same time. Opera's doesn't.

Sorry, but Opera's adblocker will enable itself when it feels like it. I have found this to happen with certain local new sites, and it happened A LOT when I had the "no tracking" turned on. I think there must be some ads that cause it, because some of them would turn OFF adblock plus when I was in IE.

It pretty much cleared up for me when I turned off the no tracker, which is a sad sort of commentary about OL safety and privacy...
