Opera Sync isn't syncing bookmarks

  • so is there any way i can get my bookmarks back?

  • @gunmetalorb73

Looks like it's not possible right now. We need a clarification.

  • @leocg

I simply did a new installation of Windows 10 and typed in my passwords and nothing else came out of my bookmarks. Nothing appears, nothing. 😞

  • @leocg

Is there a problem for having Windows 10 Pro and installing Windows 10 Home, is this what my bookmarks did not come up with?

  • Not that I know.

  • As far as I can observe, there's not only me with that issue.
I reinstalled Windows 10 1803 and freshly installed Opera doesn't sync any bookmarks despite successful log into my account. Also there is no any Speed Dials synced but History is synced. So we have partly broken sync.

Web version at sync.opera.com/web shows there's all my data so it's not lost. But by some reason it's not delivered anymore on any NEW devices.

I have also Android phone enabled to account. It can see synced tabs on my desktop, it can see my bookmarks as it was always before but it CAN'T see Speed Dial of this freshly installed Opera. Only previous Speed Dials before Windows reinstallation.
I checked what if log in on another Android Device: as a result, bookmarks sync also doesn't work - shows empty. So, issue persists across devices.

  • I had to reinstall Win10 and after I've done the usual thing, I've installed back Opera, logged in and dumb browser failed to synchronize ANY of my bookmarks. Luckily I have more systems so I was able to manually export hundreds of bookmarks, otherwise this stupid thing would lost them all. What the hell did you ppl do to the synchronization system? If I lost all those bookmarks I'd be fucking furious.

  • I don't use Sync as I don't trust it to not to mess things up. But, before wiping out an Opera profile, I might take a look at sync.opera.com to see if it looks like all my bookmarks are there.

  • @burnout426 All my bookmarks are doubled on the server. WTF. I had to clear them and resync, hopefully it'll be fine now. So stupid and annoying. And it just did it out of the blue for no reason. Wasted 2 hours for this nonsense... Eh.

  • Hello, fellows! Can someone please clarify why bookmarks on bookmarks panel don't sync among my computers?? (1xPX, 2xMac, 1xiPhone)

PS, YES, "Sync bookmarks" is ON in Synchronization settings.

  • Probably a bug? Let's wait for a fix.

  • Checked for opera://sync-internals/ there is no error message, logged out and logged in again, erased all opera local data and settings, then logged in again. Nothing happend.

@leocg is that only you in here or any dev will look for our problem? Because it is an important problem.

Windows - DeepinOS -> OS independent bug and about bootmarks, passwords and so on..

  • I think someone from Opera will kook into it.

  • Confirmed. Same issue after Win10 reinstallation - no bookmarks/speeddial sync and doubled folders. Any newly made bookmark now gets into that second folder and since they and rest ones were empty - there's nothing to synchronize as if you started just from scratch, despite you already have your data in cloud.
This way, sync is broken for all devices - Opera for Android gets nothing synced as well. It's obviously server related problem.

  • @leocg thanks a lot for your attention

forgat to say that also Fedora 28 with opera developer version.

    Checked sync.opera.com.

Yes, all the needed bookmarks are there. But in DIFFERENT folders. Each folder corresponds to one of my machines mentioned above. Furthermore, my PC-machine is not listed in "devices".

    How to make them sync?

  • @wagnerfilho89 what exactly you mean that you have no access to bookmarks? From logs you added it appears you should have them correctly synchronized.

    • encrypted tag on sync.opera.com means that you have used master password to encrypt your sync data so it can only be viewed on browser
    • all bookmarks should be visible on opera:bookmarks page, especially ones from opera:startpage on other devices, you should see them there under specific subfolders 0_1535966161523_boomarks.png
  • @ragequit bookmarks should synchronize between devices with exception of Speed Dial bookmarks which are always stored in separate folders when they come from different devices. But they should still be visible on opera:bookmarks page.

  • @msb @faurkhas duplicated categories is some issue and we are trying to look into it. We have no reproduction steps for this at the moment so any details would be helpful:

Edit: we found problem on server. Our team is working on a fix for duplicate bookmark nodes.

  • Hi,
I have the same problem of bookmarks not syncing on Ubuntu 18.04. Just installed Opera, logged into Account and the opera://sync-internals page shows all bookmarks have been synced.

However, when I open my bookmarks, it shows absolutely nothing:
