I would say that the majority of those using a VPN are doing it to access blocked content, followed most probably by those who are afraid of their government.
A (very) low percentage cares that much about privacy to the point of using a VPN, I would say.
i wouldn't call 80% of americans fighting "Their government" to protect net neutrality or to try to block the reauthorization of fisa a "low percentage"

@chuchkyschild My comments are not rude nor simple minded, and personal insults do not win arguments.
I don't have BS argument and I'm not an idiot; I'm an ex-IT professional with an IQ140. You have an overinflated fear of loss of privacy, and in any event if you really fear a loss of privacy you'd avoid the internet completely. No body has a right to privacy, you only have the rights given to you by your country of residence's government laws. If you don't understand that then your ignorant of the need of a modern, open, liberal, peaceful but lawfully run democracy. I note you have child in your handle, and that certainly sums up your state of mind.
It is simple minded to think you have a right to full privacy. Your reasoning lacks maturity and big picture awareness. Look at the whole board, not just one square. -

@chuchkyschild Net neutrality is a different subject to privacy. Stick to the point. Furthermore, provide the valid source of your 80% statistic.

It's important to be honest. As I live and breath, I have just installed tonight's update. 14th Jan 2018 at 00:39 GMT/UTC in London, UK, version 50.0.2762.58.
Looks like they've fixed it. About time.
37.31Mbps on a 37Mbps incoming fibre line.Let's hope they don't put us through that again...

FF Quantum is super fast.
When is Reborn fastness coming?
Sure under the hood much happens - but what did last year brought? Reborn Snap! ...
And unmerged non-finished Reborn Sidebar with monetized access 1. to the sidebar + 2. web panels.
Huh... -

Well, since some people here seem to not be able to behave like an adult, all the off-topic discussion in this topic ends right now.
So from this point the topic goes back to be a point to report and discuss exclusively about issues with the VPN, meaning it not working.

Hi since I upgraded to Opera 50, the VPN service is not working, it doesn´t connect to any IP.
In the previous version of Opera (v.49.0) the VPN worked correctly but in this new version not work.
Could you fix this error please?

You must be the lucky one. I am on a 78Mb/s Zen Fibre with d/l of 77.4Mb/s with VPN off and between 0.5 and 3Mb/s with optimum VPN on. Also running same version as you. Definately not fixed.

I guess as a random someone who never paid anything for Opera I have little right to complain about anything in the first place...
However as it currently stands I can no longer use Opera with the HEAVY DOWNGRADE of VPN in Opera 50.
Today I was forced to update Opera since "VPN is no longer Supported" and what I got was horrible.
Instead of being able to choose specific Countries USA, Netherlands, Germany I'm now resricted to continents. That would not be that much of a problem.... But the Speed of the VPN connection is bad joke... Simple sites are loading for ages... video streaming... lol! forget that!(OFC... I already tried alot to fix this aka antivirus, router, third party - no use)
The main usage of my Opera was to avoid the strict region locks I have to suffer when using streaming provider such as Crunchyroll. Sadly - that's impossible now.
If that's not going to be fixed I'll have to look for another solution and there's little reason for me left to use Opera at all.
Just why?....
Use Firefox with HOXX VPN addon and the IP leak stopper addon.
For free. -

Opera VPN is working great right now! I'm in NY USA and selected Americas and got a NY City server giving me great speeds all around. Videos are even playing well!
Hope it lasts!

Opera free VPN provides these options: Optimal location (default), the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Unfortunately the option for the "Asia" do not work as it should work.
When I choose "Asia" location, it connects to a Germany IP adress (so an Europe country and not an Asia country): https://i.imgur.com/2uMWgVw.pngOptimal location works great: https://i.imgur.com/QbX5rbP.png
Americas works great: https://i.imgur.com/McD56sZ.png
Europe works great: https://i.imgur.com/ZNbYHgU.pngAnd please increase the bandwidth of Opera's VPN servers. Previously, when supplied by SurfEasy LLC the bandwidth was much faster (and better)!
Specs: Opera 50.0.2762.58 stable in a Windows 10 Pro computer
