alreadybanned,
You say you can't remove the search from the browser. But you can remove the Google Search bar from the speed dial. And you do not have to use the Google Search at all. I have not given google my cell phone number, alreadybanned, though they ask for it saying it would help them contact me if there is a security issue. I have given them my landline number.

You can remove it from view by way of jumping through hoops that are not made common knowledge to average users. But again, why am I not allowed to remove it entirely? Why can I not use a search engine of my choice as default?
So you both do acknowledge then that a phone number IS required by google. You're ok with that and that's fine, I'm not

What is the problem? Seriously... I fail to understand your concern. I use Bing as my search engine. I've made a link to its portal and dragged it onto my QAB. Simple. You insist that everything must be done according to how you want it done. However, it's free software and if it doesn't do things exactly as you think it should, then use something else OR do what we do and use a workaround. And why you balk at giving a number to Google is beyond me. It is the safest way of logging into one's account as I previously mentioned.

I'm not surprised you fail to understand. After all, you criticise me for wanting options as wanting things my way and then turn around and defend totalitarian companies that insist you do things their way.

I never gave and will not give my number, I have had a Google account for 3 years.

Do you by chance have an Android phone? They don't ask for it then because they already have it, without your consent no less. I had a gmail account way back when it was in beta, they didn't ask then either but I deleted it because of the growing distrust I have with them.
That's all I'll say on this though as I've gone long enough off topicI check my account config and I did not put my number.

The company needs a contact no. to protect me (contact me) if my account has been hacked. Or so they say. But I did like the Ben Franklin quote. Thanks for sharing it. We all have different levels of intrusion where liberty is an issue.

Two step authentication is going to be universally accepted. I suppose I'm "slightly ahead" of the times. LOL
I understand hesitation at giving out one's phone number so I'm not condemning anyone who chooses otherwise. We all need to find our own level of comfort.

I check my account config and I did not put my number.
I second that, and it's easy to click "Ignore" while creating a new account and they ask for your number.I use Bing as my search engine. I've made a link to its portal and dragged it onto my QAB.
There isn't even a need for that, just set Bing as default in the settings as it's one of the default search engines. -

Added and Improved with Opera Next = tons. Speed Dial, big plus (with the ability to have folders). Discover and Stash, plus. Off-Road Mode, a plus. Increased Speed and performance, big plus. Better rending of sites, big plus. Greater accessibility of extensions, big plus.
Lost = NOTHING. Opera 12.16 is still available for use, alongside Opera Next. It's the best of all worlds. While some of Opera 12's customization features are not in Opera next, many of them were enjoyed more by power users, than by the vast preponderance of users, and some of them will be replaced in Opera Next by extensions.

lem... I respect for trying to respond patiently and sincerely with funksoulbro, but bear in mind that he's simply trolling. That's all he ever does so my advice would be to ignore his comments.

Lost = Lots
Improved = None
Added = None that benefit the user, only Opera as a company (Stash)@funksoulbro: Seriously dude, grow up.
Why do you keep bashing Opera again and again in every thread that you come across?
Just stop it or use another browser and move along.This is the last warning. You'll get banned soon!

opera://flags
