New Opera developer 41

  • does not has opera auto update feature ? before i did not update manual .

  • does not has opera auto update feature ? before i did not update manual .

There's no new build for Opera to auto-update to.

  • I have a problem with the "Shortcuts".
I installed the SoundCloudButton (https://addons.opera.com/de/extensions/details/soundcloud-button/?display=en) and i wanted to change the Shortcuts because i don't have the default buttons on my keyboard.

I wanted to chane it to "Ctlr+Shit+1" and it did not work and it seems like i can not add shortcuts at ll to extension.
For Opera Browser features like "New Tab"/"Dev Console" ... i can add shortcuts with no prolem.
I also tried it in the stable version and it worked.

Is this a bug or just something normal in the opera devolper version ?

  • it seems like i can not add shortcuts at ll to extension.

    Was it ever possible?

SoundCloud Button is an opera extension.

This is possible in the stable version but not in the deveolper version, in the devoloper version adding shortcuts for extensions just don't seem to work.

    and the announcement ๐Ÿ˜‰

    "Personal news highlights:

โ€“ Web feed update bug fixed. New content gets fetched automatically.

โ€“ Web feed preview. For example, head to http://mars.nasa.gov/rss/ and click โ€œAll Marsโ€ link. Content will be displayed using layout known from personal news (you can switch between two modes). Moreover, you can also add this feed to your sources. Note: If you have RSS detection extension, you may need to disable it.

โ€“ My sources configuration stored in preferences, and synced with Opera account.
โ€“ Usual round of fixes, and visual improvements.

    Other fixes:

โ€“ Crash on dragging tab out, when page is loading is now fixed. It was a nasty one, and some of you were reporting this issue.

โ€“ Crash on adding own theme in private window is also fixed.

Chromium is updated to the version 54.0.2824.2."

  • Hi @nopileosx2, you're right, it seems to be a bug, it doesn't work in the Opera beta, and Opera Developer as well.

  • Hi! l33t4opera, can you inform situation with Opera developer 41.0.2329.0 for Linux and how is fixing of VPN going on. VPN seems to try connect and gives IP for different countries, but it can't make connection to the site I'm trying to connect and after some time gives "Unauthorized access."

It would be nice if somebody could also explain how working part of Opera Dev is constantly broken all over again. What is the point of publishing even test version if it's not working at all.

Answer and some kind of an timetable would be nice, thank you for your efforts!

The difference between Stable, Beta and developer channels

    An excerpt:

"The developer stream is what is often referred to, in development terms, as bleeding-edge or the unstable streams. >Referring to the risk of suddenly getting cut by an unpolished developing feature."

  • leocg, thank you for the answer! I'm still waiting actual explanation, because I do understand the difference between those channels.

My guess is, why working developer version --> and I mean VPN part of the browser, is not working after next update! Guess is --> different people write same code and do not communicate what they do. That is probably the reason.

And, want to point out again, I'm talking about VPN part of the browser, it is constantly broken all over again in every second version of the browser. Leave the working code alone, thank you!

ps. otherwise coders are writing never ending story, those changes of icon looks are really not important and sadly only changes that work

  • thank you for the answer! I'm still waiting actual explanation

This is an actual explanation. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don't really think that Opera developers will come here to discuss such thing.

My guess is, why working developer version --> and I mean VPN part of the browser, is not working after next update!

I can think of some reasons for the VPN to not work :

    Bug in Opera

    Server issue

    Network issue

    Server being blocked

  • OK, thank you!

  • Hello. I have a weird thing in 2329 where when I switch tabs (especially these previous tabs loaded for the first time after launch with delayed loading of background tabs enabled), I get redirected to link from social sharing things or something. And it's very annoying, cause if I go back, it will just redirected me there again. Doesn't happen in 2323. Example url of where it happens https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-rating/

  • Have the same Problem on reddit for me.

every time I click on a thread and want to go back I can not and get directed to here

It only happens with Opera Ablocker enabled so the bug is realted to the AdBlocker.

  • I've seen a couple of sites which redirect me to their analytics tracker whenever I go back to them. For example, this one. Click any of the featured items (at the bottom), then hit Back - you end up with a blank (?) page with a doubleclick.net address.

  • Hi @flyer-ua, @nopileosx2, @sgunhouse, it was known issue, which should be fixed in the latest build, about which I will make a new comment below ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • New build - Opera developer 41.0.2340.0, the change log, and the announcement ๐Ÿ˜‰

"After a break without a developer release last week, today we are delivering to you for testing few new features.

    Faster startup

Starting the browser should be very fast. However, until now, if you had many tabs open last session, the browser would start loading all of them at the same time. This could mean slowing down the browser. With Opera 41 weโ€™re working on optimizing browser startup time with the most recent active tab and pinned tabs being prioritized for startup, while background tabs will be loaded with decreased priority. We are working on benchmarks results, to be shared soon. Meanwhile, let us know whether you can feel the snappy startup!

    Battery saving improvements

When using battery saving mode, Opera now detects, which video codec can be hardware accelerated, and tries to choose that codec when doing video conferencing via WebRTC (this includes services such as Google Hangouts). This should save a lot of CPU and battery for our laptop-using video-conferencing hobnobbers out there! And even if Opera canโ€™t find a hardware-accelerated codec, itโ€™ll now also try to limit the pixel count when in battery saving mode to reduce CPU usage if possible.

The test has been made on a MacBook Air 6,2 (Intel Core i7 1.7GHz) running OS X 10.11, running one side of a video conference on AppRTC from full battery (100%), until the battery has been fully drained.

    Hardware acceleration for Video Pop-out

Video popup so far has been handled by the software, which translated into extensive CPU usage. On low end devices that could lead into general system slowdown.

Now we are introducing hardware acceleration support for Video Pop-out. This should greatly limit the need for CPU support, and free your PC resources to other things, while you watch your favorites movies.

    Sync enhancements

We are rolling out some security enhancements, and we will share more details in the future. For now be advised that if you use passphrase, you will be able sync only between latest desktop clients (Opera Desktop 41).

    Popular searches

We have added experimental support to popular searches below the search box in Speed Dial. The idea is to have one-click access to trending searches. So far the backend is manually fed, so while weโ€™re working on it, you might find more of what we think is trending, than what the rest of the world is searching for.

    Personal news updates

There are multiple changes in personal news, here are the most visible ones:

โ€“ Onboarding redesigned, and aligned with catalog.

โ€“ Added history navigation, now you can go back to previous view.

โ€“ Due to limited interest, News on SD removed.

โ€“ More web feed related fixes, including image loading.

โ€“ Search got even more powerful: No need to include http:// prefix when entering siteโ€™s name.

โ€“ More feeds found during discovery process.

To discover more, take personal news for a test drive, or check the change log.

    Known issues:

โ€“ Auto-update for Windows USB standalone installations does not work. To update these, please download, and install the package manually.

โ€“ We are not releasing Windows 64-bit builds.

โ€“ It is not possible to enable VPN with a clean profile. It is being tracked as DNA-56872, and we are working on a reliable solution.

โ€“ With #media-detachable-view-hwaccelerated enabled, closing the pop-out, and selecting a new movie makes the pop-out open again.

โ€“ Speed dial extensions are not added on Windows."

The Chromium has been updated to version 54.0.2832.2.

No, no, no! Remove the spam. Including โ€œNew iPhoneโ€ as a suggested search is indeed an insult. I search for what I want and need to search for, not what others search for. Iโ€™m not a sheep. :(|)

  • Hi @joakimwallden, you can disable it in (advanced) Settings > Browser > Start page > Show popular searches ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Thanks l33t4opera. That is a relief, but such a stupid feature should definitely be opt-in rather than opt-out, if it has to be included.
