38.0 search box in the address bar change address

How can I change the address used in the search box? I have the start page set to use https://encrypted.google.com/webhp?hl=en&safe=off&output=search&tbs=qdr:y which limits the dates of the results to the past year, and would like to get the same results from the box.

Afaik you can't change it.
