Pfff i honestly thought those konami cheats to enable power user mode were all troll posts (i'm not even joking), now i've finally tried it and i got the notification that power user mode is enabled but i still can't find the button to remove that sorry excuse for a searchbar.
I could probably get it to work if i spend a little more time looking but imo as a first impression opera failed due to this very single obstacle.
I've downloaded it because firefox has trouble with some webpages for me but as soon as they provide a fix i'm going to haul my ass back to mozilla because this is just overcomplicated and ridiculous.Google? Really? The ability to remove anything google related should be a number 1 priority in any non-chrome browser, if i want to use google i'll download chrome...

Opera is based on Chrome. Honestly though, based on your post, its not much of a surprise. You're are bumping a post that is 11 months old, complaining about how you couldn't figure out the Konami Code, can't figure out how to hide the search bar and don't even know that Chrome and Opera share a renderer. Firefox sounds perfect for you. Glad you registered here just to post that rant too btw.

@lando242 Konami Code is just dumb idea. Why doest it even exist? Its like cheats from games 10 years ago. Can you tell me the reason to hide settings with some stupid code? But of course why not to complicate it even more...

You can go to opera://settings/powerSettingsOverlay directly to access Power User mode.

I guess that the name "power user settings" explains it enough. The idea is (was?) to keep the regular user from messing up with some settings.
Checkbox with warning should be enough. Still whats the point of nonsence code if you can do it easier. Who is regular user? You mean someone who dont even know what browser does he have? This type of users definitely dont have Opera so... point? Dont know about any BFU user with Opera. Only BFUs with Opera was users that had that browser from powerusers who installed it to them. But most poweruser I know dont recoment Opera anymore cause they just say use IE or Chrome it better. Ive uninstall Opera from all BFUs PCs and tell them the same.

Never understimate someone's potential to mess up and break things.
Still whats the point of nonsence code if you can do it easier.
Already answered. Also, konami code is known and people can serach for it while a new code may not be easy to find.

The ones that are not power user, what means the majority of users.
You mean someone who dont even know what browser does he have? This type of users definitely dont have Opera so... point?
Based on what have been said and on my experience, i'm not sure that this is correct. Opera has lots of regular users.

Super! Annoying Google search box is gone! I agree, seems weird to hide that the checkbox to remove it.
In past versions of Opera one could change the SpeedDial page search engine. What happened to that idea?
I'm sure there are lots of people had rather see their own choice of search engines .. or none at all as compared to having Google glaring there.
I'm all for Google Free Computing! Windoze too, I use Linux Mint.

A few more points:
The new Opera is based on Chromium, not Chrome. There is a lot of difference. Chromium is now the basis of all major browsers and many relatively unknown ones ... even Internet Explorer is now Chromium based.
I've used Opera from the earliest days, I've met very few others who do, if there are "regular users" I have never met any ... I'm glad to hear they exist.
