@MrTeatime Totally agree! We need Tab Islands for a better tab management. Workspaces alone are not enough.

@MrTeatime said in Tab Islands in Opera Air – Essential for Focus and Peace:

The new Opera Air looks fantastic, and its mindfulness philosophy is exactly what has been missing in the world of browsers. In this context, I strongly believe that Tab Islands, already available in other Opera versions, are an essential feature that should be included in Opera Air as soon as possible.

Mindfulness means acting with intention and organization – but how can you achieve that when dozens of open tabs create chaos? Tab Islands allow users to group related pages into logical clusters, making navigation easier and reducing information overload. This helps users stay focused without being overwhelmed by a cluttered browsing experience.

Moreover, Tab Islands would perfectly complement Opera Air’s lightweight and clean aesthetic. The ability to flexibly manage tabs, collapse them into readable groups, and switch between them efficiently would further reinforce Opera Air’s vision of a calm and harmonious browsing experience.

Are there any plans to introduce this feature in Opera Air? I really hope so, as it would truly enhance how we use this browser!

          Best regards,
          Łukasz

Definitely require tab islands and also a more noticeable 'take a break' notification

              @MrTeatime

Also I believe there should be an option for tab islands to also be placed vertically and not just horizontally.

I've heard this idea from other neuro divergents (especially from ADHD spectrum) who for their own reasons feel more comfortable/effective at having vertical tab islands.

I'm assuming the idea is similair to what 'Vivaldi' does already. Posting photo for reference.

Tab stacking option would also be great for 'Opera Air) as shown here >> https://youtu.be/gSTqdOtKV5g

@WarMongerGamesMalta, I remember when part of the Opera team left to create Vivaldi—I even gave it a try, but in the end, I found myself coming back to Opera. My 20+ years with Opera have been a cycle of leaving and returning, always around those moments of major changes, removals, and returns of the very features that make people love this browser.

Back to the point—I fully support any improvements for neurodivergent users, because I feel like Opera Air was designed with us in mind. And as you rightly said, we’re on the spectrum, which means our needs can vary greatly. Personally, the solutions you propose wouldn’t work well for me—I use a 15” screen, and I’d lose too much space. But for those working on larger screens, it might be a great addition without any downside.

I’m actually curious—does the Opera team consult their ideas with neurodivergent users? That could be a game-changer in shaping Opera Air’s future.

Hey Guys, your commitment and engagement is amazing! It's visible in those threads.
Regarding Tab Islands, as @MohamedSahal mentioned we love this feature too.

We have many ideas on developing AIR, including tab islands. However, it can't be just a "copy".
For sure, we want it to be more AIR-like. So, it will happen in some way, but I can't share when exactly.
