[Duplicated]Opera Browser Crashing Frequently and Randomly with multiple tabs or while watching videos

Hi everyone,
Lately, I've been facing a problem with the Opera browser on my desktop. It keeps crashing randomly, especially when I have multiple tabs open or while watching videos. I've tried clearing the cache and cookies, disabling extensions, and even reinstalling the browser, but the issue remain same.
Has anyone else experienced frequent crashes with Opera recently? If so, what steps did you take to fix it? I’d appreciate any advice or solutions that have worked for you!
Thanks in advance for your help!

@MichaelTechWhiz33 Did you try resetting flags and settings? What about a new profile directory?
What version of Opera by the way?

@MichaelTechWhiz33 Next time a crash happens, you can go to opera://crashes and click on the Send More Info (or something like that) to report the problem to Opera.
More information and details you can provide, more are the chances that they can identify the problem and fix it, if it's the case. -

You can't click on anything. My guess is an issue with the latest update...(or maybe that Opera decides it need to be running 25-30 tasks.)
.....and, no...a "Crash Repot" box is not popping up...and you can't type in "opera/;;about"..because the browser is frozen. The only way to close it is to go into the Task Manager and force it closed...and yes, I tried reinstalling the Browser. It got messed up, 'nuff said.

@jjhanzely It's a different issue that should be discussed in a different topic.

Hi,
I've seen similar issues with Opera crashing, especially when multiple tabs are open or while streaming videos. Since you've already tried clearing the cache, disabling extensions, and reinstalling the browser, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps that might help:
[General instructions copied from other post or/and from the web]
-
Check for Opera Updates – Ensure you are using the latest version of Opera. Go to Menu > Update & Recovery and check for updates.
-
Disable Hardware Acceleration – Sometimes, GPU-related issues cause crashes. Try disabling it in Settings > Advanced > System > Use hardware acceleration when available (toggle it off and restart Opera).
-
Reset Opera Flags – If you've changed any experimental settings in opera://flags, resetting them to default might help.
-
Run Opera Without Extensions – Even though you've disabled some, try running Opera in a clean state by launching it with the
--disable-extensions
command. -
Check for Conflicting Software – Certain third-party programs like antivirus software or other browsers running in the background might interfere. Try temporarily disabling them to see if Opera runs more smoothly.
-
Use a Clean Profile – Corrupt user data can cause crashes. Try renaming the Opera profile folder:
- Close Opera.
- Navigate to
%AppData%\Opera Software\Opera Stable\
- Rename the "Opera Stable" folder to "Opera Stable Backup"
- Restart Opera (it will create a fresh profile).
-
Check Crash Logs– If the issue persists, check Opera’s crash logs in opera://crashes and see if there are any specific error messages.
If none of these solutions work, you might want to report the issue to Opera Support or check if a previous version runs more stably.
Hope this helps! Let me know if any of these steps resolve your issue.

I’ve done some more testing and found a few additional things that might help those still facing crashes:
- Check for Windows Updates – Sometimes, outdated system files can cause compatibility issues with Opera. Make sure your OS is up to date.
- Update Graphics Drivers – If you’re experiencing crashes while watching videos, updating your GPU drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) might help.
- Run Opera as Administrator – Some users have reported that running Opera with admin privileges reduces crashes.
- Try an Older Version – If the latest update introduced the problem, consider rolling back to an earlier stable version and see if that helps.
I tried all these, and while disabling hardware acceleration and running Opera without extensions helped a bit, the crashes still happen when I have too many tabs open or stream videos. I also reset Opera flags and created a fresh profile, but the issue persists.
I checked
opera://crashes
, but I’m unsure how to read the logs. If anyone has insights, let me know! Feel free to share if anyone else has found a more permanent fix. -

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a few more observations and tips based on my ongoing troubleshooting with Opera's frequent crashes. While some of the earlier suggestions helped reduce the frequency of crashes, the issue hasn't been completely resolved. Here are a few additional steps I've tried:
Check for Conflicting Software: I noticed that certain background applications, especially those related to system optimization or security, can interfere with Opera. Temporarily disabling these programs helped reduce crashes.
Adjust Opera's Memory Usage: Opera tends to consume a lot of memory when multiple tabs are open. I found that limiting the number of open tabs and using Opera's built-in "Workspaces" feature to organize tabs helped manage memory usage better.
Experiment with Opera's Power Saving Mode: Enabling Power Saving Mode (found in Settings > Advanced > Browser > Power Saving Mode) seemed to help stabilize the browser during video playback and heavy multitasking.
Monitor System Resources: Using Task Manager, I observed that Opera's CPU and GPU usage spikes during crashes. Keeping an eye on these metrics can help identify if the issue is related to resource overload.
Test with a Different Browser Profile: I created a new user profile in Opera and found that the crashes were less frequent. This suggests that the problem might be related to corrupted profile data.
Consider Using Opera GX: For those who need a more stable experience, Opera GX (the gaming version of Opera) has additional features to manage system resources, which might help reduce crashes.
Despite these efforts, crashes still occur occasionally, especially during intensive tasks like streaming or having multiple tabs open. I’m continuing to monitor the situation and will update if I find a more permanent solution. If anyone else has discovered additional fixes or insights, please share!
