Ads in speed dial

@rogbiz You might wish to use com.sn.surfnew app as a speed dial overlay to open your web pages in Opera. This app is ad-free and also shows percent of changes in your sites' thumbnails and quick text previews

It's not about news section but speed dial itself- small icons just like bookmarks. From time to time opera just adds one or couple of them and I would like it to stop.

@sgunhouse The ads are still popping in to speed dial every three or four days. I'm assuming since it's been this long, and you just said yes, you do it, this isn't going to change? Just checking, as much as I like this browser, this is pretty annoying. It's not even so much about you putting an ad, I get that, but it messes up my arrangement of speed dials, and when I'm flying back and forth for work, and hit the wrong speed dial, because it was adjusted by an ad that popped in. That's really frustrating!

@sgunhouse thanks, maybe im exaggerating, it's very annoying. I wish they'd do a banner over the speed links, just so at least the speed links would stay in the same order.

I'm having the same issue. Tinder icon gets added again and again.
I don't want anything to do with that despicable app. -

I checked my last post, it's been 12 months, one full year, and I did follow the disable speed dial (turn off completely) and you still stuck in a Speed Dial. I'm going to have to leave you. You are not getting any revenue from those lame Speed Dial inserts, and you're losing people. Besides, all your browser is, is a rehash of chromium. Bye Bye!

Sneaky folks seem to keep moving the location of the setting! After mucking about, I finally found the current one, as of August 2022:
Settings->Basic "Allow Acceptable Ads" toggle to off.For those who need to find Settings, either:
-Click the gear in the left hand sidebar; or
-Click the sliders icon in the upper right "Easy Setup", just below the close-out X, scroll to bottom of pop-up menu "Go to full browser settings"; or
-Right click on any empty space on the start page, choose SettingsBasic is the top tab on the Left menu in Settings
Beneath Privacy Protection are:
Manage Exceptions
Manage Lists
Allow Acceptable Ads <- toggle that to off.I don't mind developers making money through ads, but unwanted ads in my speed dial moves the icons around so I have to pay attention to them, which defeats the purpose of speed dial in the first place. Opera is still my go-to browser [has been since the browser wars] so it was worth finding a solution. But from what I can easily find, this setting keeps being relocated and re-named, probably to reduce the number of users opting out. That's a very, very, bad plan! People who use Opera are dedicated, but will jump to a different browser if Opera becomes annoying or just as big a resource hog as the other options. Stop playing silly games with your users!

As of August 2023 The settings are under "Privacy and security", at the bottom of the category, named "Receive promotional Speed Dials, bookmarks and campaigns" and "Display promotional notifications" respectively.

@root422 Thanks, I was just going to uninstall opera.
Can't they just put these ads in a separate section, like the "suggested bookmarks" section? This is very annoying, and defeats the purpose of "speed dial" if I have to search among these ads to find my bookmarked site. -

@thesophile incase you or anyone else was still wondering, after you successfully get all the tile ads removed, there's one last pesky search engine looking ad(walmart.com for me) that you cslan get gone by hitting the little down arrow, then the x. Don't click the little fake search engine ad, just the tiny little down arrow, then the x. After doing this, it did not return. I hate how such a nice browser can be so scummy. The settings to remove them constantly change and it's highly annoying! Hope this helps, friend!
