@vegelund I do it because I want to watch comments for the blog post. But, I can't do that until the forum thread is created and it's only created if someone replies.

I would rather have the forum thread be automatically created for each blog post when it's published so I could watch each without doing that bit. But, I'm guessing it's done on purpose because the forum/site devs don't want to add a new thread to the database until necessary.
