This was an intentional change a while ago to match the add bookmark dialog (heart icon / ctrl + d), dragging from one folder to another in opera://bookmarks etc.). Most users don't like the change though.

            'Add site' work correctly.

Was probably just missed when changing the dragging behavior to insert at top. This will probably be changed too once someone finds out about it.

@burnout426 I remember it was changed once already a long time ago (there was the old disqus blog yet). There were multiple complaints regarding the issue (I don't remember it was a bug or change actually) and they returned (or fixed) the behavior back (bookmarks on the bottom).

And now they change again to hear the complaints again.

@andrew84 For reference, it's "DNA-96701 - Adding bookmarks to Bookmarks bar have different logic" that was fixed in Opera 84 in January. I reported the dislike of the change in the bug at the time.

@burnout426 so now they'll probably also break the 'Add site' option after reading the messages. I usually use the 'add site' option, not the heart menu or dragging.

*Checked in Edge and Chrome and there the logic is ok (bookmarks are added on the bottom ).

Yeah, Opera's purposely being different with the idea that newer things should go up top. This is of course a downside for those that use bookmarks like a to-do list where they want to address the older stuff first. I personally have no preference either way and would rather have an option in settings to control this. I think there should be a way to auto-sort alphabetically during insertion as an option too. I do like the idea of having all ways of adding a bookmark be consistent though. And, I do like the idea of being consistent with other browsers.

@burnout426 yes, I think that 'sort by date added' option (ascending/descending) would be a simple and obvious solution.

The new address bar functionality is Soo Slooow every time I open a new tab or when I want to quickly type something. Please keep things simple and stop adding things that increase the CPU and RAM usage 😞
