@xirit32 : Thank you for this information. If SurfEasy is no owned by Opera, who providing the VPN in Opera Browser. I'm a little confused on all of this. Could this be the reason behind why we're experiencing problems with the VPN?

@kvncnn It was kinda announced when Opera was bought by the Chinese consortium. Surfeasy wasn't part of the deal as they only have acquired the browser's making part of the company.

@kvncnn VPN is still being provided by Surfeasy as can be seen in Opera's settings page.

Just remembering that that Opera (Opera Sofware ASA) is not the one who makes the browser. Opera ASA is the part of the old Opera Software that was not acquired by the Chineses.

Looks like we have the Chinese to thank for blowing a hole in Opera; maybe the backdoor they put in is causing the crashes ๐Ÿ˜‰

If (note: IF) a problem exists in the Opera's VPN interfacing, it's hardly likely to be the result of Chinese interference or intrigue. The browser is still being developed by essentially the same people that worked on it before the Chinese bought the operation, and I trust the developers' personal integrity to put out word if such interference ever did occur. Most likely, the problem simply lies somewhere between or with Opera and SurfEasy.

Given that the problem occured after the last update; I'm betting the problem is in Opera.

It is 11:43 PM Nov.25 2017 with VPN enabled. There is no access available. (WIN 7).

@browzer1 I have found that simply closing Opera and re-openning it allows the VPN to make connection (sometimes you need to repeat a few times). I have also found that selecting a specific (not Optimal) VPN server is enough to get it to connect, then selecting Optimal and it stays connected. I was just connected to the VPN at the same time you said you couldn't connect. There is clearly something wrong with the most recent Opera update.

In ODev version works mostly fine, just one Off/On toggle.

Having for years been in the old Opera forum as well as in this one, simply assuming something of this kind of posting to be a 'joke' is more difficult than you may realize. Whether or not it was @yekcimm's intent to make a joke, there have been multiple other posts in these forums alleging - in all dead seriousness - Chinese browser intrigues real or imagined ever since their consortium bought Opera's browser line. And because China's Great Firewall has led many of its citizens to adopt ways like using VPNs to try to penetrate their domestic censorship at great risk to themselves, the topic is hardly a joking matter for me.

@blackbird71 I agree with you; when a foreign, authoritarian Government becomes the controlling interest in a software App, only a fool would not be concerned for its future integrity.

@chuchkyschild Only a fool would joke about security; now let's get back on topic.

I am still experiencing sporadic VPN connections; it seems more prevalent when launching an Opera Private window.

I would add that even when the VPN makes connection, it's sluggish (delayed in connecting).
