I was having the same problem as mentioned but after checking that I have Avast Antivirus Realtime protection on, I excluded the Opera exe file in Avast Antivirus and now it's working like a charm

I have the same problem.
I've added Opera folder to Avast exceptions and even disabled it for a moment to see if Opera will launch- no changes.
What is more I get a BlueScreen every few attempt to run Opera.
The problem appeared after the latest update (41.0.2353.46) of Opera (according to my Control Panel's list of programs).
Interesting thing is that Opera i working fine in Windows Safe mode...
Mayby some experimental features are cosing the error?
Edit: Disabled all addons in Safe Mode and no changes so we can rule them out -

Why do I get this message on browser start-up preference settings can't be read? All my app settings keep getting lost as well ... what is the problem here, and how can it be resolved - any ideas anyone?

What error code, address and possible driver name in bluescreen data? (You can see these in eventlog too). Bluescreen indicates hardware driver error, hardware error, some system file corruption or privileged system component (like antivirus engine) error.
Blue screen while using Opera does most likely point to video driver problem - but without bluescreen event data this is hard to guess.

Please remember that I only get BlueScreen every few attempt - usualy Opera crashes similar to how boomhaak1952 described it.
'error code: 0x00000019
error type: BAD_POOL_HEADER
Parametr 1 : 0000000000000020 Parametr 2 : fffffa80
0698a140
Parametr 3 : fffffa800698a1c0 Parametr 4 : 00000000
0c080001
driver: ntoskrnl.exe
address: ntoskrnl.exe+6f440 'I did a memory and HD check - no results. Reinstaled video card drivers, also... Problems appeared the same day the Opera upgrade was done and i'm having BS only when i start Opera.
If you run Opera with command line --disable-gpu, does it work?
I'm not sure if i'm doing it right- i've added '--disable-gpu' to the shortcut path but got BS anyway...
