Opera Mini for iOS is garbage with forced Google search and stupid news and Opera Touch does't have synced bookmarks.
My Flow is imo the most useless thing I've ever seen. Synced bookmarks mean you have bookmarks accessible on any device in their entirety. My Flow requires you to send specific thing, otherwise you have nothing. Not to mention I don't understand why Bookmarks can't be synced alongside. There's nothing preventing it. But Opera people decided to just exclude bookmarks altogether. I know iOS has its own stupid limitations, but none of it limit functionality of these browsers. It's the devs who just decide to f**k it all up so I have either good desktop browser and shitty mobile one or vice versa. It's ridiculous. Opera Touch would be great if only they added bookmarks syncing. And that's it.
Hi @sgunhouse , thanks for the reply but Firefox and Chrome sync across iOS. They operate just fine within Apple's restrictions. I'm not saying it's wonderful, but it is most certainly possible. So saying "Apple has restrictions on competing browsers" is not the reason there is no sync. There is no sync because Opera has chosen not to do it. A couple days of trawling the forums reveals that they further choose not to engage with their user base in a meaningful way.
It's their business and their choice, but I can only marvel at the shortsightedness of it. The world operates on mobile. Much of that mobile community lives on iOS. It is a meaningful market share.
Chrome enjoys somewhere between 60-75% of browser share across the world, depending on which stats you look at. There is a reason for it. I suggest that it is because of sync. You can fire up Chrome on your iOS device, sign in, and all your passwords and top sites are there. It just works.
I think Opera is the better browser overall, but they are going to be the victim of their own Shakespearean tragedy if they do not embrace the reality of a mixed-platform world.
@ultravio1et I know it's a bit of a hassle, but you can get to your bookmarks (read-only) by 'starring' https://sync.opera.com/
This will give you a direct link from the new tab page to your bookmarks, but you won't be able to edit them in any way.
@leocg This is is exactly what I came to the forums to ask. 1Password uses iPhone's Services system. It means even Google Chrome makes it easy to use. But Opera's Touch interface doesn't make that button available. I'd even be for native 1Password support. Otherwise I have to use unsecure ways of inputting passwords. I'm trying to use Opera more regularly, and this is my biggest stumbling block.
