  angiesdom, thank you very much for pointing out that the extensions worked Ok on Opera 12. I had the User Agent Changer installed for Google to have the latest layout (Google fetches the old layout for Opera 12) - and hence could not install any extension as the download page assumed I was browsing it through Firefox.

  I put these two lines into my already functioning AdBlock Plus and the Youtube search bar vanished:

  `www.youtube.com##DIV[id="yt-masthead-container"][class="yt-grid-box yt-base-gutter"] www.youtube.com##DIV[id="masthead-positioner-height-offset"]`

  I had to put the second filter as the first though removed the search bar itself left the empty space behind it in place and since it was space that I was initially seeking when trying to remove the search bar, I needed the second filter to do that job as well. Thanks very much for help as I wouldn't know how to write filter code for the AdBlock myself. Consider the topic solved.

  Yes. Turn low-bandwidth mode off for the account if it's on. If that doesn't help, make sure "do not download attachments" is turned off. Both can affect loading of messages. The latter even affects HTML messages.

  What happens if you right-click the message and choose "Fetch complete message"? Does it load then?

  You might try "make all messages available offline". Or, you might try setting "do not make messages available offline" first to clear the downloaded message cache and then change it back to "Make all messages available offline" or the the default "when I click them" and see how things are.

  You could also delete the IMAP account and add it back in.

  Or, you could log the connection to see if there's an error.

  Tried to look at your screenshot in another browser? Looks fine here (in Opera 24), which since it is a screenshot might be expected. That is, the problem is related to your hardware (as well as Opera), so looks fine on other hardware.

  Best I can suggest is disabling hardware acceleration. Go to (Menu) > Settings and scroll to the bottom to enable the checkbox for Advanced Settings. A section named "System" will appear just above that with only one setting; clear the checkbox to disable hardware acceleration. As the description says, you'll then have to restart Opera to see if it makes a difference.

  Of course it gets recreated - but without whatever is causing the error. It is possible to completely disable the mail client, but doing so disables some other features ... okay, not so sure they are bothering with site patching updates since 15 went stable, but if they still do them you need to have the mail client enabled to parse the updates.

  thanks for your interest. I am using version 24 on all three PC's. It is the Google search bar on speed dial that went AWOL.
  To my surprise, this morning all three are now displaying this feature correctly!
  It seems the mystery will never be answered.

  In my case (11.**), the setting behaves at its own will: I've been used to swithing it to 'automatic', but it's always switching itself somewhere else - so I see flash content one times activated, other times to click to make them (Blackbird was saying it's related to this "Turbo-Schmurbo" thing).
  @gram2six. What are the parameters of your connection? If it's fast enough, I can only see the point of enabling 'Turbo' if one needs going through the proxy sometimes.

  There are bookmarks in the developer version. It needs a few more features (html import the most important one), but in my opinion it has potential to be the best bookmark manager around. 🆙

  Go to bookmarks manager > My Folder and drag the bookmark into the main folder abd then to the subfolder. I guess it should work.

  Thanks, but it doesn't: as soon as I try to drag the bookmark onto a subfolder, that folder just moves away.

  In 2014 https exists for secure connects/logins on HTTP protocol and therefore FTP should have it too.
