One further query when I update Opera versions it does not remove from (x86 programmes) the earlier files so I have to manually delete those superceded folders.
Yep, this is how it works. Last couple of builds are always kept.
I click, double-click, right-click… Nothing happens. The little blank VPN button stays the same. Before version 45, when I clicked VPN it opened a settings box. Nothing happens now.
Now you were finally able to explain the problem correctly.
Apart from what Leo said (just mentioning this because I'm not sure anymore if this is turned on by default or not):
Go to your Opera settings (Alt-P) then select the "Privacy & security" section. Scroll down and you'll find the "Offer to save passwords I enter on the web". That's used to turn the password saving feature on or off.
That same widget/dialog is used for all the import wizards. For import wizards where settings can be imported, the checkbox controls whether the settings will be imported or not. By "settings", they mean account settings like email address, server names and ports etc.
For the generic mbox import wizard, "import settings" is grayed out because the wizard doesn't deal with settings, just messages.
