RE: Opera 69 comes with built-in TwitterBlogs
Updating to 69 causes constant crashing loop where the browser will simply crash, then restart. All extensions went missing, when later checked if they were actually missing in extensions section, they were all disabled.
Speed Dial went completely missing.
Weather widget, just another annoyance no one asked for and is forced on the user
Twitter is fine for those who want it but this isn't the problem with Opera
The problem is they can't build a browser that updates without messing up somehow and taking away the user's data.
Why is it that the Speed Dial just disappeared? Why did extensions disable? Why does the browser keep going into a Launch-Crash-Relaunch bootloop cycle?
Had to revert back to 68 from backup and had to fully disable updates by deleting task scheduler, renaming updater, and --disiable-update in launch options.
Whatever is causing the crashes and issues has to be fixed, thats the point of the update. No body wants to start over again when each new major update comes out.
I have been on Chrome since the last time Opera had a big update blunder and have not had a single issue updating Chrome (or Chromium) not only are faster, but much much more reliable than Opera has been as of late, I have lost trust and faith in Opera completely this time, second time these Start - Crash - Relaunch boot loop cycle, loosing all speed dials, Slow Startups, All extensions magically just turning off, Opera user login not working, all these bugs right after updating to 69.
And the funny thing is, some people are not having these issues, or are not noticing the minor issues that are leading to bigger issues later.
In terms of reliability, trust, dependability, lets just say that Opera icon will be fighting for space on the desktop, and the desktop has PLENTY of space, even so, the only thing that remains is that beloved O icon, just as a reminder of how good Opera used to be and how bad it is now that only the Icon itself is the pleasing part remaining. - Opera for Windows

RE: Opera 67.0.3575.97 Stable updateBlogs
It's very difficult to use this browser any more as its unreliable. It needs a major rework and reliability should be the top priority if it must compete with Chrome or Firefox.

RE: Opera 67.0.3575.31 totally unusable on Windows 10 x64Opera for Windows
@burnout426 Hi there, thank you so so much for taking your time to write down the directions. This is really good advice, however there is only one problem. When I launch the browser, I just want to get my work done. Things done like daily tasks and when I am in a hurry to have to get information I need. I don't have the time to mess around with all of this which is why stability and function are so important. I appreciate your advice however, but as of now I do have other more stable browsers (firefox and chromium portable) both of which are getting the job done. I love Opera browser for its unique abilities but at this rate, it is difficult to trust as a reliable solution.

RE: Opera 67.0.3575.31 totally unusable on Windows 10 x64Opera for Windows
@radekpilich Same here, I have disabled updates entirely. But what if 68 is also broken? We have no way to know.

RE: Request : When Opera is fixed and stable againLounge
@sgunhouse Hi, there was an issue in the Bookmarks sidebar where bookmarks were not showing.
There were issues with syncing, freezing, and unresponsive behaviour after 5-10 mintues or sometimes just unresponsive on start where you cannot click anything. Thanks and will check what the update entails. I wish they would put a change log link directly in Opera > About section.

Request : When Opera is fixed and stable againLounge
Could someone please message me when Opera is stable again? I have temporarily disabled updates and using Version:66.0.3515.115
There seems to be no easy to way to check when annoyances that are in the latest update are fixed or when Opera will be reliable to use again. Thank you kindly in advance. -
RE: Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31Opera for Windows
Thank you for your response. I will keep an eye on updates and blog posts to see if and when these issues are resolved, only then I will upgrade.
For Opera to mark these updates as "Stable" is far from accurate to put it mildly, as you can see in one of the changelogs of that being mentioned. Its very hard to trust given the experience concering stability.
I am not sure how they are able to release and mark them stable if they are not noticing these problems themselves while a lot of us are noticing problems and have to scurry to downgrade. Very inconvenient regardless of latest Chromium update. Stability and performance should always be number 1 priority because for a majority of users, the web browser is the most important application on the PC after the OS itself.

RE: Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31Opera for Windows
@l33t4opera Hi and thank you again for your quick and helpful responses. Yes that is the plan whenever they decide to fix these issues. I can no longer think Opera as a main reliable browser that it used to be a long time ago. Now you watch it update everytime and you are wondering if you will lose everything or something will break. Very frustrating. What exactly are they trying to do? Can't help but wonder what level of controlling interest is the Chinese owners of this browser. Scary thoughts...

RE: New updates makes Opera to freeze after a minute.Opera for Windows
@bbildman Yes, you're right. Please see my post here for a solution for anyone else who may need help. This has helped me avoid further updates until we have a word from Opera. It is difficult to find a proper Changelog or Update Log without digging into Opera's blog and searching to see if they posted about the update. There's no main Release channel changelog page which makes it more frustrating. But for now this should help.

RE: Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31Opera for Windows
@bbildman I did it the easier way. I just deleted the entire 67.xx folder, as it keeps the older version as a backup, and inside the 66 folder, I renamed opera_autoupdate.exe to opera_autoupdate.exe.bak just to be safe, with the launch options "\path\to\launcher.exe" --disable-update
for both the task bar pinned shortcut and the regular shortcut in Start menuPersonal opinion :
Frankly I am tired of broken updates, its too much too often. I'm not sure they are testing these updates before releasing them. Having to turn to help from fellow users every couple of months, if it wasn't for your quick reply and help, I would have been lost a bit longer. I've stopped using Opera as my default browser now. -
RE: Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31Opera for Windows
@l33t4opera said in Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31:
--disable-update
Hi @l33t4opera Thank you so much. So I did these 2 steps so far :
-
I added --disable-update for the Shortcut that opens Opera (for the launcher)
-
I renamed opera_autoupdate.exe to opera_autoupdate.exe.bak
I noticed that with just #2 -- Opera still annoys saying in Top left menu drop down to Restart it to update. But I ignored this and after a while this notification went away.
The problem is, Updates randomly break things, but what if they fix the problem? I will have to update eventually at some point.
Really getting tired of dealing with Instability issues, seems every few months they release without testing and something breaks. A browser is like the main reliable thing for people to use, its just so frustrating.
Thank you for your help, and will look forward to if they fix this and also the newest issue where everything just freezes every 5 minutes. No idea what that's about.
Edit: Success! Here is the result after applying your Advice
The Environment Variable option you mentioned was unnecessary for this procedure.Version:66.0.3515.115

RE: New updates makes Opera to freeze after a minute.Opera for Windows
+1. Its much slower, freezing like on forums etc when typing. Also the book marks side panel does not show all bookmarks if you have folders on the bookmarks bar, they will not show in the side panel.

Bookmarks Side Panel broken on Opera 67.0.3575.31Opera for Windows
Hello,
The bookmarks Side panel does not show all the bookmarks after update to the latest Opera.
Another issue is the browser is now more sluggish, less responsive and slow. Even after clearing all history, etc. After less than one hour of use the browser becomes sluggish.
Edit : Reverted back to Opera Version 66 -- Too afraid to go into "About" section because it starts to automatically download update.
Is there any way to Stop updates?

RE: Opera Browser Assistant?Opera for Windows
Hello, I have found in Opera directory (WIndows) an folder named "Assistant"
This Opera Browser assistant also makes an entry in Windows Task Scheduler.
This is unwanted behaviour and is not mentioned when Opera updates itself. This should not be hidden in updates and it should mention what is being installed during Update and given a choice if EXTRA software is to be added.
Please don't force this on users. It is simply another resource spending on CPU startup. Let your users know what you are installing on their PCs.
Sincerely

RE: Bookmarks Sync still a problemOpera for Windows
@burnout426 Hello there!
All of what you are saying sounds reasonable, I just don't have the time to go through all of that. But yes, that is a bug and I have gone through it many times. The old book marks would not get deleted, and make their way back.
Right now, the easiest and fastest method I have come up with is,
on Device 3: I deleted /Appdata/Local/Opera Software and /Appdata/Roaming/Opera Software
I copied /Roaming/Opera Software from the device where everything works properly, To the device from which the out dated bookmarks kept syncing back.
So far it is all good, but yes Opera Sync has bugs and I am sure the developers know about it. It may not happen to everyone, or may not even be reported. But I don't have the time to become a beta tester at this point.
Thank you again, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you good sir.

RE: Bookmarks Sync still a problemOpera for Windows
@burnout426 Sorry about the late reply. Ok I figured that out. Is there anyway to make a suggestion to Developers so that we can Remove and Resync per device?
For example:
Device 1: You use this daily, your bookmarks etc are always upto date.
Device 2: You use this maybe once a day, or for very short periods per day.
Device 3: You use this device once a month, and Here is where the problems starts. This device contains out dated bookmarks and information, which then gets Resynced back to the Opera server, and from there, this information makes its way back onto your Device 1 and 2.
This is a very time consuming challenge to sort out and it would be nice to please contact the developers and let them know we are facing such issues. Maybe they could let us control Per Device settings, and use Sync by time in mirror or backup mode?
Let me know if you can pass this along. Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!

RE: Bookmarks Sync still a problemOpera for Windows
I forgot to ask you if there is a "Device" page where each specific device can be removed until Bookmarks there are fixed before Loging into so that they won't upload 'junk' bookmarks back onto the server? So far I have not been able to find this option, but if it exists it would make things a lot easier to remove the problem device temporarily and help for resetting Sync data on server.
