I'd also like this, but mainly to block certain news sites so I don't have to scroll past them all the time. Namely, the daily mail, the mirror, the sun, basically I don't want to see news from british tabloids.

Drop-down menu textOpera for Android
It was probably a design decision, but I have difficulty remembering what the icons mean in the drop-down menu. Would you consider an option for changing it to text? Could still have the icons on the left of the list. Could also do with an 'add' option in case the little plus sign was missed, from an accessibility point of view. So having hit the menu button from top to bottom:
Add to Speed Dial
Save for later
Forward
Find on page
Share
Speed dial
History
Discover
Downloads
Settings
Off-road mode
Obviously the list would be longer than the screen on most devices, so would need to scroll, hence why this was probably not done to start with, but I think it would make a useful option.

RE: Improving the Bookmarks Manager ExtensionOpera add-ons
It's certainly a good idea. However, it might be worth starting with one of the better chrome bookmark extensions, since they already use the bookmarks API. I've recently found 'Neater Bookmarks' which is very nice. The only issue with it is that it assumes use of chrome's own add bookmark and folder features, so it a menu only and nothing else. The opera extension 'Add Bookmark' works well with it, but as yet it doesn't allow creating folders, so I have to show the bookmarks bar to be able to do that.
Another chrome extension 'Tidy Bookmarks' has all the functionality, but looks ugly to me. I tried to hack the html and css to make it prettier, but I wasn't ever happy with the results, and in the end I found a better looking one. I also stole the icons from 'Bookmarks Manager' (which has very nice icons IMO), for use with 'Neater Bookmarks'.
Hope that helps, and I look forward to your finished product!

RE: How to reorder extension buttons?Opera for Windows
Ha! What's the point of having a WYSIWYG interface if it's not actually WYSIWYG?!

RE: How to reorder extension buttons?Opera for Windows
I have no idea why the numbered list I just made appears all on one line. It was on separate lines when I posted it... Sorry.

RE: How to reorder extension buttons?Opera for Windows
I realise this is an old thread, but I was searching for an answer for this, and found this thread, but also found a way to re-order them! Involves digging around a little code, so if your not confident doing that, make sure you save a copy of the Preferences file somewhere before you mess with it.
The website appears to have scraped content off of my.opera before it closed, but I'll give you a step by step guide here in case it disappears:
- Go to your profile directory (found in About Opera > Paths)
- Open the file 'Preferences' in notepad or similar, and find the "toolbar" line.
- Note what the codes in "..." mean (from Extensions > ID).
- Close Opera (so it doesn't over-write your changes on exit).
- Re-order the toolbar list as desired and save the file.
- Re-open Opera, huzzah! All your toolbars are in the order you wanted!
Simple, and works with v20.

RE: What happened to Tidy BookmarksOpera add-ons
No info on where tidy bookmarks got to, but just found a better (IMO) one on the chrome web store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/neater-bookmarks/ofgjggbjanlhbgaemjbkiegeebmccifi/related
You'll have to install the opera>chrome extension though: https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/download-chrome-extension-9/

RE: What happened to Tidy BookmarksOpera add-ons
I was wondering the same thing... 'Simple bookmarks' has also gone, both by the same developer. Did the dev just rip them out of the chrome store and put them in opera's without permission? Can't contact the author because all info from the page has gone.

RE: Little 2 cents about the speed dialSuggestions and feature requests
@rafaelluik and @lem729, thanks! That worked a treat, and I see I can now change the speed dial size to my liking as well! Hooray! Now if there was only some way of changing the speed dial icons so they were all icons instead of mostly white images of the website...

RE: Opera Mobile for iOS?Opera for Android
@lem729, yes that was what I was asking. 'Opera Mobile for Android' was what I men't by Opera Mobile (the others being Opera Mini and Opera Classic). Hence 'Opera Mobile for iOS', because you wouldn't call it 'Opera Mobile for Android for iOS'...
Anyway, I'm using chrome for the ipad, which I'm pretty sure uses webkit. I think they all use webkit except for Opera Mini, which got an exemption on the basis it was doing server side rendering, so it wasn't technically a 'browser', but an app that linked to Opera's servers.. Something like that anyway.
As it is, since webkit and blink were until very recently the same thing, and Chrome (for iOS) is using webkit, and Coast is using webkit, I wondered if Opera have plans to port the 'Opera Mobile for Android' user interface to iOS, also using webkit? The answer is probably 'no', but I thought I would ask anyway.

RE: Little 2 cents about the speed dialSuggestions and feature requests
+1 On history, I have it as the first speed dial, would be good to put it on the top.
It would also be nice to remove the Google search bar. The main browser bar searches already, so it is redundant. I realise it is probably there to help new users find a search box, but once you're familiar with using the main bar (and most browsers work this way), it would be nice to turn it off.

Opera Mobile for iOS?Opera for Android
Does anyone know if Opera are planning to port the new Opera Mobile over to iOS? I know there is Coast already, and I really did try to like it, but I think I prefer the Mobile one (I have an Android phone and an apple tablet).

RE: How do I import bookmarks from Chrome to Opera 20?Opera for Windows
In addition to the suggestion above...
The official way is to first install opera version 12, import your bookmarks to that, and then the 'import bookmarks' function will work in version 20.
Another option is to install the extension 'Bookmarks Manager' which can import from an html file produced from the chrome (or firefox, or IE) export function. However, this doesn't actually import them to the bookmarks bar, and won't work with favicons. It will just give you a button to access them in the browser, but they are only in the extension, not opera itself.
Maybe not the answer you were looking for but that's the way it is at the moment. Hopefully it will get better. You might think it is a little odd that a browser cannot parse an html file full of links to add it the bookmark bar (or even the speed dial) itself, and you would not be alone in thinking this.

Change picture on speed dial?Suggestions and feature requests
Could you add a feature to the 'edit' section on speed dials to change the picture/icon? On speed dials that come with opera, all of them are large logo's (gmail, facebook etc). But any other page that is added comes as a screenshot instead. If it is supposed to look like an app, I would prefer to change the picture myself to an appropriate logo, just add it to the edit function.

RE: Extension wishlistOpera add-ons
Just looked at the options and code, I didn't realise it was actually remembering the state of each site in the manage exceptions area. OK, that may have added to my confusion.
-
RE: Extension wishlistOpera add-ons
Wow, thanks, that was quick.
The only issue is that it gets a bit confusing when swapping between tabs. It remembers which tabs had images on or off, but the button icon displays whatever the last clicked state was in any tab. So if I have images on in two tabs, click to turn them off in the first, then swap to the second, the button shows images off when images for that tab are on. I would be fine with it globally turning off images, but not taking any action until a site is re-loaded.
Actually, it seems it only affect the last open tab. So open two tabs, click on the icon and it will reload the second tab without images, even when I am looking at the first.
No, more complicated than that. The first time I use it, it works on the tab I am on (regardless of when I opened it). From then on it continues to only work on that tab, until I open a new one, then it only works on the new tab, and not the original one.
Perhaps a global setting with no re-loading would be easier. This is how 'image block' worked on FireFox, which is essentially what I would like for Opera.
Thanks for the effort though.
Neil.

RE: Add bookmarks API to Official Opera bookmarks extensionSuggestions and feature requests
Also include the option to import from other browsers, coming from FF I had to install v12 to get my bookmarks in there. Seems a little backward to me.
EDIT (well, tried to edit, it didn't work): Sorry, it does already do this. But, yes support for the bookmarks API would put them into the bookmarks bar.

RE: Extension wishlistOpera add-ons
I'd like a simple button to allow/block images (as in toggle the settings > website > Show Images option). I even tried to do it myself using the dev tools guide, but with only limited knowledge of HTML/CSS and and even less of C/Pascal (I did these things and college and uni, over 10 years ago), I found I could not follow it. Actually I'm still interested in learning how, if anyone has a good link to learning the basics, most of what I found (e.g. W3C schools) was aimed at website JS, rather than extensions specifically.

RE: Change "Start a New Discussion" formForum feedback
Maybe also the start new discussion should pre-load the drop-down with the last category you were looking at. So if you were looking in the German language page at Opera Mini when you clicked on 'start discussion', the discussion you start should already have that set in the drop-down as a default.
