'Web page, complete' option missingOpera for Linux
Hello everyone! I'm not sure if this issue has been mentioned here, and it's not a new issue either, and not limited to Opera, but I don't know where else to ask.
So, my problem is that on Linux, Chromium-based browsers are missing the 'web page, complete' save option (the one that saves a bare html file and then the page contents to a folder). I really liked this option, and it's still available in the Windows-versions.
Anyone has info about why this disappeared, or how to get it back with some workaround?
Saving to PDF is an okay alternative, but sometimes I want to have the pictures downloaded separately in a folder, and this can't really be solved now easily without this option... -
RE: Sync does not work! When you try to login browser freezes!Opera for Windows
@l33t4opera Thanks for the tip, this seems to have solved my problem!
I guess my Sync data was a bit messed up after all those years... -
RE: Where is the "Recently closed tabs/Tab menu" button on the top right?Opera for computers
I also missed this feature the first time I wanted to reopen a closed tab... shit, where did that button go? Then I came here to find it, and yes, that flag works for now, but this really something they shouldn't have removed... it was one of the most useful features. It was just there, a click away, not hidden away in the menu... there is space for two buttons there Opera, just sayin'...

RE: [Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
@minho It was hard to do it fast enough, but eventually I got logged out of Sync, and yes, it seems to have solved the problem. In the meantime, someone replied to my bugreport from Opera, so I'll update him with this information.
Thank you so much for your help! Hopefully they'll find the bug within Sync, and I can use it again, it was working fine for me so far...

RE: [Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
@minho Okay, but how do I turn off sync in the problematic browser that hangs in about 15-20 seconds after startup? Is there a startup switch to disable sync? (I tried the obvious --disable-sync, but that doesn't seem to work)

RE: [Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
@l33t4opera The problem is, I wanna backup a lot of stuff from that old profile, so installing clean new extensions doesn't really solve my issue... I use the developer version now, that at least synced some of my stuff (including my opened tabs), and works fine.
Also, when I disabled extensions, one of those is The Great Suspender, and with that disabled, it didn't load my opened pages, just the pinned ones. So maybe I can narrow it down to those... but I think I'm done for tonight, thanks for your help so far If you have more suggestions, I'll gladly try them in the morning.

RE: [Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
@l33t4opera It's still freezing with both of those switches.
With a fresh profile, it starts fine, works fine, but in the terminal, throws the same errors:
[8804:8804:0226/000852.230974:ERROR:sandbox_linux.cc(374)] InitializeSandbox() called with multiple threads in process gpu-process. I guess it also doesn't help that my main profile has like 64 tabs opened, and more than a dozen extensions... so the issue can be anywhere, and it's already overloaded a bit.

RE: [Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
@l33t4opera Thanks, tried, but it's still freezing. Resolved the kwallet issue though, but I think that was present before this problem appeared.
The main issue will be somewhere with these errors I guess:

[Solved]Opera 67.0.3575.31 freezing soon after startupOpera for Linux
After upgrading to the version mentioned in the title, when I start Opera, it hangs after a few seconds. Tried disabling extensions, and starting without sandbox. Tried with different versions of libffmpeg.so, as it used to go wrong sometimes. None helped. I don't want to reinstall it, because I have data in my extensions that I don't want to lose.
This seems to be the relevant parts of the startup log in terminal:

This is on Kubuntu 18.04 64-bit, kernel version 4.15.0-88-generic. LDD version shows this: ldd (Ubuntu GLIBC 2.27-3ubuntu1) 2.27 (not sure if it's glibc-related though, but might help).
Chromium works fine, Vivaldi works as well, so it seems to be an Opera-bug.
Please advise what worth a try, and does not delete my personal data, thank you.

RE: Facebook notifications doesn't workOpera for Linux
Okay, after much experimentation, it seems like I have a strong suspect now among my extensions. Now I've only disabled this Flash Video Downloader: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/flash-video-downloader/aiimdkdngfcipjohbjenkahhlhccpdbc?hl=en-US
And since that, notifications started to get through. I don't know how I've missed it earlier, but this seems to be the culprit. I just leave this here as future reference, I guess I'm not the only one using this extension in Opera...
-
RE: Facebook notifications doesn't workOpera for Linux
@ivarzlv: I can't really do a fresh install on Linux, since it'll use the same config folder. But as far as I remember, notifications come through without extensions.
Also, during my experimentation, I've noticed when I disable these extensions, I get the notifications:
Dark Reader
Disable HTML5 Autoplay
Disqus Downvote Exposer
Flash Video Downloader
I don't care about cookiesBut, the tricky bit is, I've tried to disable them one by one, but none of them is causing the problem alone. I mean, if I just disable one of them, the problem still persists. I need to disable 2 or 3 of them in various combinations, and then I get the notifications. So, I'm even more confused now...
I'll try to disable all extensions in private browsing, and opening Facebook there, to see what happens.

RE: Facebook notifications doesn't workOpera for Linux
Somebody? Anybody? Nobody? I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem...
In the meantime I've tried to strategically disable/enable my extensions, but without finding a definitive culprit. Sometimes the notifications came through, I've thought I've found the faulty extension, but then when I've enabled all the others, the problem still came back.
It's like this is caused by multiple extensions having a problem with each other, or I don't know... pretty hard to debug, but it's bugging me for years now... any suggestions would be appreciated.

Facebook notifications doesn't workOpera for Linux
So, I have this problem for quite long now... it was present on my previous Kubuntu installation (14.04), and now after I did a clean install of 18.04, I still have this issue (although I did install all the old extensions again that I've had in Opera before).
The problem is, I always have to refresh Facebook to see if there's any new notifications, and sometimes even then they don't show up. Interestingly, this only effects the normal notifications (like, comment etc.), but new messages and friend requests do show up without refreshing the page.
It does this even when testing in a private window. All other browsers not affected. I do have FBPurity installed, but I've tried disabling it, and it didn't fix the issue. I have like at least a dozen other extensions, probably not affecting Facebook, I didn't test them all. Maybe Notifycon can be another culprit, I don't know...
I haven't found any relevant result in Google with the exact same problem, and it's really annoying me now, so I just try it here: does anyone else has this problem, and if yes, has anyone found a solution other than changing browser? I love Opera, so I don't really want to change because of this...

RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@ygbourhis: Yep, I've just updated from the official repository.
Seems like they've come to senses as to not loose loyal users on a tiny thing like this... -
RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@ygbourhis: Thank you so much for this workaround, it seems to be working fine!
I was just about to consider upgrading my system to the new LTS, but I'm not sure now, since keep using Opera would've been my only real reason, but that seems to be sorted now, as long as this script works (not sure if it will work with 60.x versions later, but I don't see why it shouldn't).
Finally with the new version I could get rid of the annoying Ctrl+Tab crash bug!

RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@jimunderscorep: My bad, my mind was just so focused on that both current LTS versions reach their end of support in April 2019, that it just seemed logical that then will be when the next LTS comes out. But of course, I know they're released in even years... silly me
So I'll have a look at the 18.04 LTS and might consider upgrading soon, even though I'd loose a year of support from 14.04, but still, it might worth doing it.
Just the endless time it takes to create a full backup of my entire system is mind-boggling... and never did a separate Linux upgrade on my dual-boot system, so I'm a bit afraid of it. And also, I don't really like the Plasma 5 GUI... and all for this just because of a browser... meh.

RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@jimunderscorep: Maybe the distro left SMPlayer on an old version, but SMPlayer team itself did another repository just for the Qt4 builds, so they didn't left the users in shit with an old version. And yes, I complained to them on Facebook, and then they told me this.
If they could do this courtesy, then a million dollar company also probably could. As an end user, anything else just sounds like shitty excuses to me, sorry...
In the global market, the companies should be for the user, and not the other way around. I know it's idealistic, but still... If it would be a community-maintained open source software, then it'd probably be okay, if the user needs to be a bit more flexible, since there the developers kind-of making the software out of favour and passion, but Opera is in a different business.
And the main conclusion is, that I still have to remain on this old (and a bit buggy) version for another year, if I don't want to upgrade my distro 2 times within a year (now, and next April, when 19.04 LTS will come out). Or I have to change browser again, which I don't really want...
-
RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@jimunderscorep said in Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
$ apt-cache rdepends libdbus-1-3 --installed
I have libdbus 1.6.18, which is apparently from 2013-11-01. Yes, it's quite old, but still other Blink-browsers, Vivaldi, Chromium, Yandex Browser, Brave etc. can deal with it just fine, and still updating regularly.
A hell-of-a-lot depends on it in my system, since I'm still on Qt4 (I don't even like the new Plasma Qt5 GUI...). But even SMPlayer for example, does packages for both Qt4 and Qt5 to keep their user base, and they aren't a big company.
And Opera not upgrading anymore is really bothering me, 'cause the browser is maybe my most important, most used software (apart from the OS, of course), it's not good to stuck on an increasingly outdated version.
I'm using Kubuntu for around 10 years now as my main OS, so I'm not planning to leave it anytime soon. But both the supported LTS versions (I only consider LTS releases for an upgrade) are having end-of-life at April, 2019. So if I upgrade now, I have to do it again next year, which I'm also not planning to do so soon. And 1 year is a long time with the same browser version...

RE: Can't install Opera 51 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSOpera for Linux
@jimunderscorep: Yeah, but Google is a multi-billion dollar megacompany, they can afford to say 'gtfo' to users. Still not very user friendly, but they can do it.
Meanwhile Opera was always in struggle to get new users to be a profitable company, so I'm not sure it's really that good idea to say 'gtfo' to users whom are still using an officially supported, just a bit older version of a relatively popular OS.
But the first time I had to leave Opera, after years of using it happily, was that when it took them almost years to build a stable version of the Blink-based Opera for Linux... it took a few years until it became such a nice browser, that it became my main one again. So, little moves like this doesn't really help the company to thrive, if they're loosing their old users for years again...
