@burnout426:

RE: Opera 107Blogs
@alexs Hi,
i dont recommend posting this kind of solutions because this bug is responsibility of Opera team.
By posting this kind answer, they will never fix this problem as they should.
I have the same problem even the snap version of Opera which you have a another snap package that take care of codecs for chromium base browser, which was updated 2th of feb e now even with this videos are broken.

RE: Opera 107Blogs
@ironbone
Hi, i will not try what you show me because since i am using snap version with that snap package that i mention, it should not be needed to manual update the codecs for opera. As never should be needed as well as on other version of the packages like deb. Since i dont have such problems like thin on browser, where for example today just apply another update for brave ( which is a deb package which it work with snap version of codecs for chromiuim base browsers)
This is the fault of Opera not on OS and related packages.
As i said this is a old problem that Opera team seams to not care and made even worst on snap version -
RE: Opera 107Blogs
Hi, again same problem with no playing videos on linux like ubuntu, now even on snap version.
This is start to be hell over and over again. Why since version 160 latest minor version ( 70) and also this new major no videos. Even in some some in youtube.
I am using ubuntu 22.04 with opera snap because with of another snap chromium-ffmpeg was working fine.
the chromium-ffmpeg snap was update at 2 February 2024 (https://snapcraft.io/chromium-ffmpeg).Other browser like brave is working fine.
First with deb or rpm is to forget because since the codecs didnt come together.
Now even with snap version with another snap for codecs, this does not working, what hell Opera team doing on Linux version package of Opera.
I dont understand why this problem still persist on linux version. Why still releasing for linux if you cannot solve the problem like other chromium based browser like brave or vivaldi ?
What is the point of a browser if you cannot watch videos?
Why you, opera team just apply a fix to find the correct path of ffmeg is on the system or search for that snap packages, why so hard to do this ??????
This is not the first time i am commenting about this.

RE: Opera 101.0.4843.58 Stable updateBlogs
3 years has past you / Opera are saying the same thing:
"We don't 'choose' to limit this functionality. Unfortunately there are complicated legal restrictions around distributing support for H264 video decoding, and it comes down to 'we can't give you this functionality ourselves'.Therefore we rely on others to give it to you. On Windows and Mac, it's the operating system that provides libraries that do H264 decoding, and Opera uses those. On Linux it's a bit more complicated, but it comes down to 'we use what Chromium uses except we can't give it to you ourselves'."
You choose to simple to do nothing about it.
When my boss ask about a task, he want solutions not problems.
Like i said when i install Brave, it has same problem, however when I install ffmepg or openH264, , somehow finds the path to the codes and works.
It is not first time i am writing about this.
I am writing this because i want to keep using this browser.
And when i choose a linux distro i want to choose how i want to install it with .deb / .rpm or snap.Again, in quotation, you currently are choosing to to limit this functionality instead of solve the problem.

RE: Opera 101.0.4843.58 Stable updateBlogs
@leocg
This why was removed from chromium. but the problems remains and still cannot watch videos by default. You, opera since 2020, didnt try to figure out a solution. Why?
However others chromium base browsers they solved the problem.Go to forum, exist several post about this problem since 2020 and Opera didnt find a way to solve this.
more recently :
https://forums.opera.com/topic/65303/video-and-opera-does-not-seem-to-be-going-good-on-linux-mint?_=1692467547492What is the point of a browser not showing / play any kind of media.
if you cannot solve this problem for linux distro why insist to make it still available for Linux base OS ?
You, opera team, made the browser keep read same path of codec which is not with opera installation.
Why keep insisting in same mistake?
With openH264 you will not have same issue, this is what FF uses, so why not use / add it ?
Or since problem is with Path where codec are, why not do Opera search for codec possible installation paths like Brave do ?
If you cannot solve ask for help to other chromium base browsers for the sake of users.
Thanks.

RE: Opera 101.0.4843.58 Stable updateBlogs
Hi, since opera release a complete new visual, i was expected that they would fix also the problem on Linux with video codecs and with respetives packages without the need of using snap.
When will exist a fix for those installing opera with .deb package or .rpm ? thanks. -
RE: Video and Opera does not seem to be going good on Linux MintOpera for Linux
This is only valid for chromium base browsers like opera, brave vivaldi, etc. because few years ago the codes were removed from chromium.
However, for example brave, when i install ffmeg or have open264 or even the snap code version installed, it finds one of this codecs and the videos works fine in brave.
However in Opera, expects the folder in the one of folders of the opera browser, which is wrong and they should fix this way.

RE: The Videos Don't Play TopicOpera for Linux
But it is suprising that you still in their forum, if you are not using it anymore. LOL.

RE: The Videos Don't Play TopicOpera for Linux
This should not be up to the user to fix this.
Even they release a complete new version and still dont fix with problem with find codecs path installed in the user machine !!!!!

RE: Video and Opera does not seem to be going good on Linux MintOpera for Linux
Hi,
this is not specific to mint / ubuntuBut also all debian base distro and fedora.
I dont understand why opera team since they decide release a complete redesign browser, why didnt fix the problem witn .deb and .rpm packages for linux.
Why not make the browser search for codec package like ffmeg, openH264 in user machine. Why no Ask to install ?
A browser like Brave automatically detect the codecs and works fine even with a snap codec base.
In some old posts alredy asked this, Why Opera still does not Fix this? i dont want to install / to use snap if i am using fedora, mint , popOS, etc.
Please fix this, just use openH264 ( with libopenh264 decoder) inside of Opera or Fix the Paths to find which codecs the user machine has.
Maybe i will create a seprate post about, because the old one about this issue was closed which i dont agree with the solution.
Thanks -
RE: Opera 94 StableBlogs
@leocg: the problem with h.264 / ffmpeg codec on opera for linux base OS.
Basically, opera dont search for the correct path for ffmpeg lib that user installed in system, since opera removed the support for h.264.
see this for more info:

RE: Opera 94 StableBlogs
Hi.
how is the status of the codecs problem on linux base OS like Ubuntu ( and derived like linux mint, Pop OS) and in Fedora?
You release a video feature but it fixed the video related issue Opera instaled from .deb or rpm file? -
RE: Opera 80 StableBlogs
@leocg said in Opera 80 Stable:
@jedi-am It's not a matter of codecs being found or not, but if they are for the correct Chromium version.
Yes, it is. Because the system will update ffmpeg version.
If you install ffmpeg ( deb file) not chromium-ffmpeg ( snap) that will not even matter.
-
RE: Opera 80 StableBlogs
@leocg said in Opera 80 Stable:
@jedi-am On snap the codecs are provided by Canonical.
Hi, in some way you are wrong,
Because even you install opera via snap, you still do not work until you install a snap package via terminal or software store, that is call chromium-ffmpeg,
.
But only works if your opera is a snap app, if you install opera via deb file and you have this snap "file" will not be enough because, again opera will not search in snap folder too.
And i try, like i said, with Brave browser works by installing ffmpeg package via terminal or via this snap package, either way brave will find the codecs.

@treego said:
No update available yet for Chromebook/Linux ... I am not upset ... I am patient.
I was able to update to Opera 80 this morning now. Thank you, Opera!
As usual, I had to update the libffmpeg.so file ... see here to get the current libffmpeg.so file for your Opera 80 on Linux.
I agree. how long will take to fix the html5 video issue in linux like debian base OS (like mint, pop, ubuntu) and fedora.
I read that is a legal problem, but saying that do not solve the problem.
So why when install in Ubuntu via snap i do not have the problem ?
I currently using as my daily os manjaro because of this problem.
Opera team should see how manjaro solve this. This problem, like other comments said, dont exist in Brave for example.
When i install brave via deb file, after that i see i dont have html5 video working too, but i only need to install ffmpeg package and then the video will work fine, because brave in some way, find the path to ffmpeg correctly, where Opera will not for some reason.
To me exist this ways to solve this:
the brave way, by finding the correct path to ffmpeg lib file
the manjaro way, that ask to install the lib ffmpeg and copy the file at same time of installation
or start to use open h264 like Firefox.
So to me no excuse to take so long to p solve it
So please, Opera team, Solve this. because Opera is a great Browser and more Linux users will install it.
thanks
