The "minimalist" design is not quite minimalist, as it leaves too much space between address bar and view, and between tabs and address, and so on. Who benefits from this ? No one else than who designed. It is not practical, it's not nice either. Why the view has not the entire space between left display and the right display ? Why address bar is so thick ?
It is very hard to gain a user for your browser, but it's very easy to lose it.
Let me exemplify you when your design can annoying and force users to leave this brower.
Suppose you scroll a long page. And accidentally put the mouse in most left side (or right). Suddenly, the scroll, doesn't work. Why ? Because you didn't stretch the view from left to right side of the display. Why ????

Very true. Users needs a browser easy to use, fast, less consuming resource and reliable browser. With their last update, they fail every point, except maybe the speed. With their new design, they force to migrate a lot of users from Opera to another browsers. Why to have a brick like design and to be puzzled which tab and which address is paired ? Why to have rounded view(s) ? It's not handy at all and ugly as well !

Really ? And why if you accidentally put the mouse maxim right (or left) and scroll, nothing happen ? Why ? Because the view is not stretched on whole view, because of actual "beautiful" design.
And why I don't match always the current tab with the associated address bar, and that's also because of this "beautiful" design ...

Yes, the design is matter of choice, I agree, but to see if this new design is better or not, please check the functionality and you will see. There are more drawbacks for this new design, and I will mention just one of it:
The working view is not stretched from left to right side of the display, and because of that if you have the mouse pointer in that dead and useless (and ugly) space, you will scroll in vain.
So, it is better design ? Take the conclusion for yourself.
P.S. Do you thing that much space between tabs and address bar is looking good ? It looks like they are different windows ... ugly !

I do the same ... that's pity, because Opera use to be a good browser, not its not 
Opera used to be a tidy browser, more tidy than Edge/Chrome ... now, with new look, make the "performance" to look worse than Edge, the top zone (tabs + address bar) is thicker than Edge ....

When I open a new tab and this tab is large enough, when I go to mouse over this new tab, for the first time I don't see the Close Tab icon, and if I go out of this tab and go back over the tab, the Close Tab Icon become visible.
Can you check this?
I pretty sure they would not make Opera browser back to the previous design, they worked too much on this one to do that.
I noticed Opera is most likely Mozilla as look and feel. It is a matter of taste, I agree. Personally, I prefer steady design like Edge or Chrome. For business case, 99% users prefer that. Maybe Opera browser doesn't target those users.
In my opinion, even Opera GX looks better than Opera One, because tab area is coupled with address bar. And if Opera One looks like Mozilla does, at least Mozilla stretch the view on the entire screen. Better ! I don't expect Opera team hear us, if Opera has telemetry, maybe they see how many users give up using Opera ...
Did you look over this bug? Has been reported since several versions, the bug is still present ...
Congratulations for Opera One. I would tell you: don't round too much the browser components (view, tabs, etc.). It would look better with straight forms.

I am gld you solve it, but this is a hack. This should be solvable by a settings, not by deleteing a file ... they make Opera a bad browser !!! Pity.

I agree with you @dyaroshenko, instead of adding new features on tabs, they should fix basic things on it.

I also agree with you, those round edges looks how it looks, but are they practically ? No. Waste of space. And menus/context menu are also rounded. Opera uses to have straight and tidy menu(s), now are they nor practically and nice. Address bar is also too thick, and so on.

When I try to close a tab island, it crashes. I can reproduce this crash any time, should I send you a video ?
Beside this new design, which is not optimized, see how thick is tab + address bar, now, with new tab island, this browser is very unstable. Pity, used to be a good broswer.

Yes, you are right! Opera has perfect look on 99 version, I wonder why they are not making another branch for Opera One and those who wants fancy but not usable GUI, to go forward. Strange.

Good point, would be useful to have such an option right in the update settings, and to choose myself when I update my browser and when not. Good point !
