This morning I had to purchase something online with Paypal. I didn't know if it was going to go through but it did with no issues. So now everything seems to be working again.

I've got the same issue (July 24 2023). Already tried clearing cache, disabling extensions and I don't use ad blockers, not even Oper's built-in one.

I know there is no status bar anymore but when you hovered your mouse over a link you would get a popup at the bottom of the browser showing you the exact link. I consider this an important security feature. Anyway, this morning in Opera GX this feature just stopped working. No popup. I had this problem in the past with Opera, the original, and I fixed it by doing the following: Type in the URL or address bar in Opera:

opera://settings/onStartup
Click on the “Open a specific page or set of pages”
Click On Add a new page
and add:
opera://startpage
to the list. Restart Opera.

This doesn't work in Opera GX. In fact, I can't even add it properly because the word opera gets replaced automatically with chrome. chrome://startpage/

Any other suggested fixes other than "resetting". Opera used to be nice and stable on my system. Until the latest few updates. Every day now is a new problem. I already switched from Opera One to Opera GX. I'm ready now to jump ship to Firefox and have it over with.

OK. After some trial and error, I discovered why some of my wallpapers were not showing. That is there was a bracket in the name (). When you rename a bunch of files all at once, with the same name, Windows will put a number in a bracket after each name. For example image(1).jpg, Image(2).jpg and so on. When I remove the brackets from the image name they seem to work fine. Even though this wasn't an issue before. I'm still sticking with Opera GX from Opera One as my default. This same issue appears in Opera GX.

@aam2018 More info: Latest update. Personalized wallpapers will not show but display in the settings panel. Opera wallpapers work fine even the animated ones. I got two personal that will show but before they work I have to click on a Opera wallpaper first. Any other personal wallpaper only makes the speed dials lighter or darker. I could probably reset it, that's how I fixed it the last time but I don't want to have to do that every time. I shouldn't have to.

Come on Opera you're better than this. Personal wallpapers will not show but the built-in Opera ones display fine. They were working for the last few days and now they don't.

@burnout426 Maybe it's just something on my system. The last two updates really screwed up my browser. I was even tempted to switch browsers. So we will see what happens in time.

@burnout426 Thanks for your reply but I found the solution myself. You got this starter page thing that you want people to jump through. I would just close that tab down. But Opera will not operate properly if you don't jump through the hoops first. Backgrounds will not show, logo keeps showing up. A skip button for people who already have Opera would have been nice.

@leocg That's the one but I found the setting to hide it. I was reading it wrong and thought the switch had to be off. So frustrated because the latest update again screwed up my browser. One more screwed up browser because of updates and I'm switching browsers. Still can't get my wallpaper back. Thanks for the answer anyway.

Every time I click on a link in an email and switch to Opera I got to wait for your logo to load first. Really???? How do I disable that? Maybe it is time for a new browser because you people have gone where no one has gone before. Unbelievable!

After the last update, wallpapers will not display. I can see them in the settings section but they will not display as my background. How do I fix it? Also, how do I get rid of that stupid search bar? Who uses search bars these days?

This is the second time your updates have screwed up my browser. This time - no speed dials, black screen - no wallpapers, and couldn’t even go online. Similar issues with the last update. Luckily I had the installer download on my system and ran that. It fixed my problems except I cannot show a background picture. And why do I have to continuously adjust the DPI settings because the interface is too big? You are trying my patience in keeping you as my main browser. How do I get my wallpaper back?

Re: Speed Dial is Not Showing

This is an old post but I had the same problem recently with Opera GX. If anyone is still facing a similar situation I fixed this by Resetting the browser. Go into settings, and scroll down the page. Click on Advanced and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on "Restore settings to their original results".
