      Hello,

I'm encountering a new behavior in Opera One that hasn't occurred in the past, despite using the same typing pattern for years without issue.

Whenever I start typing "hot", the browser now auto-suggests hotel.com, and this suggestion cannot be removed. I’m used to typing "hot" and pressing Enter to quickly navigate to hotmail.com, but this new behavior consistently redirects me to hotel.com instead.

What's more puzzling is that even after closing the incorrect tab and opening a new one, the browser still auto-navigates to hotel.com — as if something from the first tab remains active in the background.

I’ve already gone into the settings and disabled everything related to suggestions or predictive URLs, but the issue persists.

Browser version: Opera One (Version: 119.0.5497.141)

Could you please advise on how to remove or prevent this unwanted suggestion?

      Thank you,

@gamleur84 Not even familiar with hotel.com but do you have that site as a bookmark or speed dial? Opera will suggest bookmarks. (I'm familiar with hotels.com but not sure they are the same.)

As far as history goes, also check your typed history (by pressing the cursor down key before typing anything in the address bar) and remove it from there.

@sgunhouse Hi. Thanks for the answer. It is indeed hotels.com. The suggestion is "hardcoded" and does not come from my bookmarks. When I hover my mouse, I don't have the X on the right end to delete this suggestion 4ef45ced-9728-4f45-808d-8744ec9dc73a-image.png

@gamleur84 Opera would not hard code any suggestion - and if it did, more people would have commented on it by now.

There is a section in Settings for autocomplete priorities, look through which are enabled to see where it might be coming from. If you haven't disabled Direct Match I might start there. And if you haven't yet removed it from your typed history, do that.

@sgunhouse First, thank you for the efforts and support. I have been using Opera for more than 15 years and I work in I.T, so I have knowledge in both areas.

Anyway, I got your point that this is not "hardcoded" and must be coming from my profile. However, I still struggle to find where. It is not in my bookmark, speed dials or history (which I manage actively). However, I have new piece of information.

First, i have the same behavior for Expedia. What is particular is the fact that both recommendations bring me to the Japanese web site of Expedia and hotels.com. I must say that I lived in Japan for few years, so that make sense in a way.

The lack of X at the far right says to me that it does not come from my history.

I also changed default search engine to Yahoo and see same behavior.

Let me know if you think of anything else. At this point, I am more curious to understand Opera than anything else

              thanks

@gamleur84 Finally, found the issue, I deleted my local state and now it wors fine. I found the solution here: https://forums.opera.com/topic/34350/opera-is-forcing-japanese-google-as-my-search-engine-help

The issue is back and I see "location":{"country":"JP","country_from_server":"JP"} in my LocalState. Where does it come from?

Goto the URL opera://about and take note of the "install" path. Then, in your file explorer goto the install folder, go in the latest version folder and go into the "resources" folder. Then, open up the keywords.json file in a text editor. You will see:

                    "hot",
                    "hote",
                    "hotels.",
                    "hotels.c",
                    "hotels.co",

Then, look in the specific_keywords.json file and you'll see "hotels_com". Then, look in the "travel_intent_keywords.json" file and you'll see "hotel".

You will notice that some of those things are locale-dependent and there are different lists depending on the locale.

Also, at the top of those files, you'll see a key/hash that protects the files from modifications.

Long story short, Opera is adding the suggestion.
