@mattbizio What I'm not convinced is that people needs to have several tabs opened all the time.

I know and agree that tabs management is important.

@leocg for me personally its only for ui aesthetic that i prefer. I like having vertical tabs cause its look prettier. Less stuff on upper part (horizontal tabs). Especially when the vertical tabs can auto hide. Its very neat. Also im easily bored. So a change will be nice.

@leocg So for work or just daily use you only use a single tab at a time? When your done you just close the tab and re sign in everytime?

For my use case I'm a sysadmin so it's not uncommon to have 20 - 30 portals open and going in and out of. Rmm tools, network management, inventory systems, device management systems and list goes on. As an admin I work on requests as they come in so I never know what portal I'll need till I physically get the request. All these are 2fa as well. Once you close the tab you have to 2fa back in. I couldn't imagine having to sign back in 100+ times a day using my password and 2fa code whereas I could just leave the tab open and refer back to it when needed.

@scrapefour Nope, I use more than one tab. I just don't use dozen, hundreds of tabs like some people do.

Yes plz make vertical tabs, almost all major browser got them as an option. Almost all sites are optimized for phones and content is dense in the midlle of the page, so vertical tabs uses vertical side space that is usualy empty and gives more real estate to the site content.

@leocg To me vertical tabs are the better option because I need more vertical screen real-estate than horizontal. Most websites waste a lot of horizontal real-estate, and having a minimized vertical bar is better because I can free up significant space on the top of the screen and the screen feel clutter free. Specifically Edge, has exactly what I need, but I am sticking to opera because of the other experiences.

Vertical tabs is just a quality of life change which will greatly improve UI of Opera!

For me Zen Browser has the best layout:

                    • Nothing on top and on bottom of the page
                    • Sidebar
                      • Zone 1: Address bar
                      • Zone 2: Bookmarks like button for the always in use sites
                      • Zone 3: Pinned tabs
                      • Zone 4: Opened Tabs
                      • bottom: workspace selector

With this layout the usable page height is maximized

@Mlipka I just installed OperaGX after hearing that it was lightweight and for gamers, I Uninstalled after searching for vertical tabs and seeing this comment.
This is why we cant have nice things!

Cam here to add +1 for the vertical tabs. While the work screens get wider and wider, it's really convenient to use side-bars for tabs.

There are no plans for vertical tabs. It's like a building second browser in a current browser and it's not really a frequently requested feature. We don't see value in adding it to AIR at this stage of the product.

May I disagree with you? 🙂

As far as I can see, this post is the most commented on and most viewed in the "Requests" topic. Do you still think it is not a frequently requested feature? 🙂

@Mlipka I don't see it as being too difficult to implement considering opera already has this built out in previous versions and removed it.

Also it seems like a very highly requested feature as this thread appears to be blowing up.

@Mlipka I don’t want to sound rude, but someday in the future you developers will remember that there was an opportunity to grow Opera’s audience with an update or with a simple addon. The fact that you say “there are no users requesting this feature and there are no plans to do it in the future” reflects two things:

                                  1. that the team is neither understanding nor listening to the real needs of its audience, who take valuable time to discuss them in the official opera forum, and

                                  2. that there isn’t even the will to do it.

I swear nobody wants ridiculous games, skins, or mods in Opera GX nor in another Opera Version. As I said months ago: the time you’re spending on unnecessary things could be used to build a better version of Opera and thus gain more market share. Mark my words: someday your browser will simply become irrelevant due to your egocentrism / incompetence, and you’ll be left with your arms crossed wondering why.

As a kindly reminder to all Opera investors: just look at the charts! Opera have fall behind Edge and we have to remember that Edge comes from the legacy of I.E. that nobody never used it, and look how far is now:

                                  https://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share

I´m Definetely switching to EDGE once and for all and I encourage to all of the people who have kindly took their time to respond to this thread switching to whatever vertical tab web browser

                                  have a Good day!

@Mlipka it´s funny that you literally say "it´s like building a second browser in a current browser" ROFL! dude you have like 3+ versions of the same browser: Normal Opera, GX and AIR and the mobile version of all of them. Again, guys you don´t have to make 3 flavours of the same browser to appeal different public... You just have to make 1 solid version and make it cohesive and functional!
