How to use Tabs Island?

Islands are a perfect solution for my overloaded tab space excwpt I don't get how to use them (after reading the instructions many times).

I Ctrl/Rt Click and get "new tab in island", click that, and it opens a new island. Huh? Right click alone brings up the same option!

What am I not understanding? What I have looks like 3 separate islands with tabs of 3 different colored bars.

@bethlg What are you trying to do? Create a new tabs island? Add a tab to a tab island?

@leocg I want to (1) create a single tab island and then (2) add several tabs to that island. It looks like I keep creating additional tab islands, so maybe I don't know how to add tabs to an island that I've created.
