i've used this browser for at least a decade it seems but i'm through now.
a couple of months after the last update the program misbehaves in many different ways and i know it's not my system because opera 12.16 just started being a piece of shit one day after running fine for a couple of months. i've tried installing older versions and i've even installed 12.16 on completely fresh systems and it still has a hard time with any sort of video, prevents my pc from shutting down and have to manually close the program or windows simply won't continue with the shutdown routine and sometimes the program simply stops responding. oh and the masquerading feature no longer works on 9 out of 10 websites, all this just happened one day, i figured it would be fixed at some point but i guess they aren't going to support this version at all any longer and i have no appreciation for that.i didn't support this program for this long to be manipulated by the developers.
i'm very certain that the only reason this program started misbehaving is because they want to push us all on to their new beta and i don't wish to take part in this. i am not interested in the new browser or being a free beta tester. i think that this is a very underhanded and shitty way of convincing people to upgrade to your latest product.anyway, i'm moving on to firefox now, i no longer give a shit about opera or where they go with their product...

I think if your conclusions were true there would be a lot more talk about Opera 12.16.
Clearly something happened to your PC if indeed it is a PC. I'd look there for issues first, then approach a clean install of Opera.
Just so you know, a clean install requires removal of any instance of Opera. All instances of Opera. I had problems back a year or two ago and was informed to do a search for Opera on my PC and I found it all over the place. After many installs that still had problems I followed the advise, removed all occurrences of Opera/Opera folders and then did a clean install. From that point on it behaved flawlessly (for Opera).
Opera 12.16 is a great browser with exceptions where some web pages don't play nice with it. I will hate to give up integrated mail, RSS Feed support and all the customization I've done over the last 10 years or so if and when Opera 12.16 is no longer functional.

12.16 is working great for me, which is a relief. I'm clinging to it until it becomes completely nonviable as a browser choice due to web development, after which I'll get hammered on alcohol, weep copiously and then start trying to figure out where to go, browser-wise. Opera Next is sucking marginally less, they've at least retrofitted basic stuff like language choices etc, so maybe in a few years it will be usable too. Here's hoping.
