After the update today, that annoying graphic and sound Opera does after first installing it comes up every time I start the browser, and worse, every time I click a link to open it in Opera. I tried reinstalling it, and it's still doing it. I love the Opera browser, but having it go bonkers after every few updates have become the norm.

How can you disable that annoying splashscreen/intro after every start of the Opera? Its so extremly annoying to wasting time looking some stupid intro logo and that sound effect is even worse.
Im looking only for permanent solution so when you update Opera and it will come back then its not permanent solution. So anyone have something?

@krischik I'm a teacher. Believe me it doesn't help in a classroom of teens either.

@leocg It was bad enough when it went after an update. At this time, it is now doing this every time I open the browser. Would really like to be able to mute the sound - loads of fun in a classroom when I'm trying to get the kids to focus...

Instead of disabling the splash screen, I say the devs should eliminate the whole splash screen and not even consider an option to have one! I must ask:

                • What purpose does the splash screen (and its audio) serve? Is there one? No, a splash screen serves no purpose for a browser. Opera's splash screen (and especially with its audio) is an annoyance and more likely causes users to migrate to a competing browser.
                • Is the splash screen necessary? No, a browser does not need a splash screen.
                • Does the splash screen have any practical utility? No.
                • Does a browser's splash screen (with or without audio) disrupt productivity or distract? Absolutely!
                • Is there anyone begging for the splash screen or its audio, where they just have to have it? — no, only the devs.

Because of my audio recording, I turn off all of my computer's system sounds / alerts, because I don't want any audio playing except for that which I'm working on. I don't want audio coming from any apps unless I have control over it and trigger it, and I don't want to adjust the volume levels.

Opera devs want their browser to be at the forefront of browser tech. A splash screen — especially with audio — is quite a few steps backward. It makes no sense.

@daffysings Well said. If I had not found a way to lose the splash screen I would have changed browsers.

@daffysings The purpose is to show that Opera has been updated to a new version or build.

@leocg Usually there's company's promotional site opens after update in other browsers.

I can't say for sure, but Opera also has something similar ( #opera-one-introduction flag) and it also opens after update if I remember it right.

*It was made to show that Opera has been updated to a new version. But I really don't see any relation between the splash screen and version update because the same screen is used in GX browser and its purpose is just some kind of visual effect, which can be turned off.

No, it's a splash screen. It always comes up every time Opera restarts, even if Opera has just been updated. If the splash screen's purpose was to show that Opera has been updated, it would say so, and it would provide the new version number. Currently, the splash screen doesn't show any version number.

Even if the splash screen were for providing the version number, it still wouldn't justify having a disruptive splash screen.

@andrew84 As far as I know, that flag is to enable the page that runs on the very first time you use Opera One ands where you can configure some things like theme, adblocker, etc.

@andrew84 By the way, the splash screen in Opera GX shows up after updates even if you have disabled it in settings.

@leocg I wouldn't know whether there's a bug related to disabling the splash screen in Opera GX — maybe there is.

In Opera One there isn't a settings option to disable the splash screen. For Opera One (and every app with a splash screen), a splash screen is supposed to show up every time the app starts, unless there's an option to deactivate it. So that's not a bug for Opera One.

Again, as I said for Opera One: its splash always displays when it starts up, regardless of whether it's fully updated or not. And again, as I said before for Opera One: the splash doesn't display a version number, so its purpose can't possibly be to show that Opera (One) has been updated.

                                  I'm done here.

@daffysings Like in Opera GX, the animation should run only after an update but there is a bug in Opera One that makes the animation to show up on very single startup. The bug was fixed in last Opera Developer release: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2023/08/opera-103-0-4906-0-developer-update/

Now it's a matter of time for it to reach stable channel.

Then probably the flag nothing to do with this, but I remember the Opera One's promotional page opening after update. There wasn't update yet on this week for developer, I'll check when it'll be released.

Anyway, the main purpose in GX is just decorative.
And the fact that the same splash is used (even if disabled) after update, can confuse.

Hello again! After updating Opera to the version 102.0.4880.40 the problem resumes. I have to delete this "splash" each time? Is there another solution? May be, in "Flags" page? Dear developers, call out and give explanations!
