@daffysings Because, as said, there is a bug that makes the splash screen to show up every time you open Opera.

@leocg I wouldn't know whether there's a bug related to disabling the splash screen in Opera GX — maybe there is.
In Opera One there isn't a settings option to disable the splash screen. For Opera One (and every app with a splash screen), a splash screen is supposed to show up every time the app starts, unless there's an option to deactivate it. So that's not a bug for Opera One.
Again, as I said for Opera One: its splash always displays when it starts up, regardless of whether it's fully updated or not. And again, as I said before for Opera One: the splash doesn't display a version number, so its purpose can't possibly be to show that Opera (One) has been updated.
I'm done here.

@daffysings Like in Opera GX, the animation should run only after an update but there is a bug in Opera One that makes the animation to show up on very single startup. The bug was fixed in last Opera Developer release: https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2023/08/opera-103-0-4906-0-developer-update/
Now it's a matter of time for it to reach stable channel.

As far as I know, that flag is to enable the page that runs on the very first time you use Opera One ands where you can configure some things like theme, adblocker, etc.
Then probably the flag nothing to do with this, but I remember the Opera One's promotional page opening after update. There wasn't update yet on this week for developer, I'll check when it'll be released.

splash screen in Opera GX shows up after updates even if you have disabled it in settings.
Anyway, the main purpose in GX is just decorative.
And the fact that the same splash is used (even if disabled) after update, can confuse. -

Hello again! After updating Opera to the version 102.0.4880.40 the problem resumes. I have to delete this "splash" each time? Is there another solution? May be, in "Flags" page? Dear developers, call out and give explanations!

@williama26 I've just updated to 102.0.4880.40 and the splash screen and sound plays every time you open up a link via an email

In the recent months when this splash screen first appeared, it would, IIRC, show up only one time after an update. As of today (for me), it's showing up every time Opera is launched. I've tried disabling the splash screen with an opera://flags setting, but it didn't work.
I've been using Opera for 20+ years. I've accepted some changes that I didn't like, but I will not accept this annoying splash screen appearing every time the browser is launched. Either the splash screen goes or I do.

I really like the splash screen because it's really cool. But I also want the option to turn off the splash screen and its sound when OperaOne starts up. I would be happy if you could consider adding the option to the settings.
Opera One(version: 102.0.4880.40)
Update Steam: Stable
System: Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (64-bit JPN)
Chromium version: 116.0.5845.141Thank you.

What the hell is wrong with you?
Stop that Startup sound now! With the newest update the Startup Sound comes every time you start Opera... Now its finally time to move to another browser. -

So where's the way out of the impasse? I like this browser and no way intend to change it. Is it difficult to add a new feature, something like: "Display the splash screen when starting"?

PS:
Now i uninstalled this crappy opera ONE. I installed an older version where everything works like it should and disabled autoupdate.
Fix this or not. I do not care about it anymore. -

@proshor From the lack of response it’s obvious that they never look here for feedback, the company isn’t focused on the user as we get it for free. Go to where they get money and complain, that’s the only way to get their attention.
Me? I’m not their quality control for dumbness. The entire update is garbage when it comes to the UI. I’m pretty sure if I dig around I’ll find that it is hogging more resources and probably has a memory leak now too. It happened to Firefox once they let greed and unqualified devs start making decisions. I’m slowly switching to Duck Duck Go’s new browser, it’s still in beta but they actually want to fix things the user dislikes. Even in beta it’s better than this mess and it’s blockers actually work unlike Operas. -

I also wonder, why does the main folder locate by default in C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Roaming, and the .exe-file - in the different folder: Appdata\Local\Programs?
