In Relation to the "Get the latest Security Updates", I need to know if an announcement by Opera's Staff here will post that Tuesday was the end of all updates for Opera on Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 and have to discontinue to use the browser due to Security Reason unless the user updates both Hardware & Operating System?

@chaojeffrey It was already announced that Opera 95 was the last with support for Windows 7/8/8.1.

So since the release of Opera 96, updates for those OS should not be expected.

@leocg And that is the rest the Menu button is in Red, because the Operating System needs an update due to the very fact the version I have is not secure now, and we know uninstalling it would be the likely recommendation until my OS & Hardware is up to date by Microsoft's means.

@chaojeffrey What are you talking about? The OS doesn't really care that you are using an old version of an app.

You are getting that warning because either there is a new update and you should run the installer to get it or because an update for the current version of Opera was mistakenly seen as one for Opera 95.

              Here ya go:

              https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/2023/01/opera-windows-7-8/

I highly recommend updating your OS to Windows 10 then upgrading Opera. Windows 10 is free and currently supported by Microsoft.

The temporary solution offered in this forum (i.e., blocking Opera's updates via host file) is not recommended.

              Please share.

              Cheers 🙂

                @chaojeffrey,

                My thoughts:

Updating our hardware and software in order to mitigate potential security issues is a fact of life.

I realize that many cannot afford to update their hardware (or software, if hardware-dependent), so when we see "bells, whistles, and red lights going off" we're just gonna have to live with them until we can afford to do so.

If security is not a great concern to you then, by gosh, keep using Opera 95 (with all the warnings that come along the way) or switch to another browser that still supports Windows OS 7 and 8.1. If it is a concern, then shop online for an updated laptop or desktop. They're quite affordable these days. The only real pain is transferring all of our data from an old laptop/desktop to a new one. But hey, that's what back-ups are for ... to ease the pain.

                Cheers 🙂

Not to discuss or disagree, but how many times your productivity has been affected by unneccessary or failed (or just time-consuming) upgrade and how many security incidents your systems have encountered?

                  🙂

I appreciate your comment. Not everyone is adept at upgrading hardware and/or software. I get it. Personally, I have never had an issue doing so. Either you know what you're doing or you don't. The key is researching the topic, always backing up your data, and lots of patience.
