Personally i think that when i switch workspaces, the transition effect (animation) is just not needed. It takes time and bring distraction.
On normal opera there was no such effect and i think it was better.
Too many not needed animations especially when i switch between workstations like 30 times per day -

@tytanick Yes! I definitely need this to switched off. I do change workspaces during my worktime like more then 200x in a shift. There must be option to switch it off otherwise I should use another browser.

I want to squeak about the same issue. The animation for switching workspaces is entirely surplus to requirement and creates friction in my user experience. It feels like starting at a ticking timer for no reason. Please remove it or at least give the option to remove it. I know it makes for a swanky looking promo video, but it's terrible for day to day, minute to minute use.

Definetely want to echo this sentiment, these animations make me feel sick. I want an option to turn them off. It makes me feel sick, and if this is not resolved I will stop using Opera... It's simply a stupid addition

Yes the recent upgrade to Opera One has brought this in by default, and it's actually really quite annoying, and seemingly impossible to disable.
As a general rule, all bells and whistles need to be "disableable". Users who spend their whole day flicking between tabs and workspaces usually for work purposes simply don't need extra gumf and just want as clean a product as possible. All these nice-to-haves are a great way to attract more users and a larger userbase can only be a good thing, but please always offer the option to get rid of any and all distractions and strip right back to a low-memory, low-CPU product that just does the job of browsing, and nothing else.

Disabling the hardware acceleration is not a solution nor a workaround. It is like not using the browser to not to see the animation. Hardware acceleration is a need for other stuff like watching videos without problems.

Thanks @Hellsfire
They've sorted it:
opera://settings/?search=reduce+animations
New option in 101.0.4843.33
Many thanks dev team, this makes Opera much more usable.
Please do ensure any fancy stuff comes with an off-switch for techies (like you, and me!) who generally just want usability and speed!
But thanks, it's a class browser, and much less memory-hungry than Chrome. -

That awful new animation when swapping workspaces can now be turned off in the settings.
Still have a gripe about the lack of transparency. I had to dig this out myself instead of it being easy to see what the fixes are after an update.
