I knew upgrading to Opera 18 would be a disaster.
Whoever decided to kill the bookmark sidebar option should visit a doctor and get some pills.
I have about 300+ bookmarks. Now you forced me to put them all on Speed Dial???
What??? Are you insane or on some medication???
Trying to force people do things they don't want, instead of assisting them with convenient features. Do you really think I will be scrolling down 4 screens just to click a bookmark?
You've just forced me to switch to a browser which still offers this "ancient" feature. Insanity, Opera Team!

Do you have a question or is this just another useless rant? If you don't like Opera 18 no one is forcing you to use it. Go back to v.12 and be happy. 'Nuff said? :whistle:

Leo, I've tried the Bookmarks Bar. It pales in comparison to the old Bookmarks Sidebar.
There is NO extension (that I can find), that will mimic the old sidebar. I'll stick with 12.16 for a while yet.

Look, no one is forcing you to do squat. If you don't like Opera Blink, DON'T INSTALL IT. It's really a rather simple choice for "most" people. Granted, your time with Opera Presto will be limited as its compatibility with websites becomes an issue. But for the time being, you can continue to use it since security patches are being provided. Since Opera 18 doesn't float your boat, move on. These forums are help forums not whining forums. I'm not an apologist for Opera 18. Did I suggest he (or you) install and run it? Did I trumpet its features? No... I simply suggested that he (and now YOU) follow the terms of service. :whistle:

The thing is. Why do all developers think there are no more DESKTOP users out there?
Because the single reason I can think of anybody throwing out the bookmark sidebar is that it is difficult to use fingers to click on those miniature bookmarks.
Guess what. I am a caveman. I still use that old-fashioned device called mouse, I still use a separate keyboard and touching the monitor screen is the last thing I would want to do because I want it to be clean and nice.
Why don't you split your browser into two editions? Opera for Desktop and Opera for Tablets?

Why do I have to suffer because of the increasing popularity of tablets and other touchscreen devices?
Is it a sin to be a desktop user? Is it a sin not to have a touchscreen? Is it a sin to wish to have a bookmark sidebar which was there for decades and nobody thought too much of it? Why is it that now having a bookmark sidebar is politically incorrect?
Did any Opera developer actually try to import 200+ bookmarks into that start screen and reasonably navigate a 10-page mess??? Those screenshots of webpages are confusing, the overview is lost, the navigation is hell. Unusable! And you can not even change the size of those speed dials.

You don't. You have to suffer due to your own ignorance.
Firstly, if you don't want to use Opera 18, then don't install it.
Secondly, if you do install it, don't install all of your bookmarks to the speed dial, use the bookmarks bar.
Thirdly, if you want to resize the speed dials, zoom out. Or, install Opera 19 and adjust the number of columns and the speed dial size.
Keep taking the medication, and try to regain some mental balance.

There is no bookmarks bar in Opera 18. I couldn't find it.
Please provide a step-by-step instruction. The import book manager is only able to import Opera 12 bookmarks to the speed dial!

Look at Pesala's post count. He more than understands the concept of sidebar. The issue is, do YOU know how to use the Search function? Why should Pesala provide you with step by step directions when you refuse to do a little leg work yourself?
I'll give you a hint. First type in opera:flags into your address bar and hit enter. Scroll down to QAB and enable it then reboot Opera and go into Settings and enable it there. Now... if you have bookmarks in Opera 12 (and I assume that's your beef), you can use the Import function to bring them over to the QAB. I'm sure from this point you can figure it out. If not, come back and report.

Rather a categorical statement, eh? "All developers"? I think not. There are a myriad of developers in the universe, and they don't all think alike.

That you can't think of a single reason beyond catering to the touch-screen mobile device fad more likely shows a lack of imagination on your part, and hardly constitutes proof there aren't other possible reasons. Such as: Opera believes there are not enough users "needing" sidebar bookmarks to expend the resources at this point in time to develop it - resources that would have to be diverted from other priorities which Opera believes are more important, or Opera believes the bulk of desktop users want a similar interface that works for Opera on both desktop and mobile devices, or Opera believes it has a better concept than sidebars in mind for the future but hasn't had time to pursue it. I have no idea what their reasons actually are, but there are certainly more than your one possibility.

Split an already resource-stressed design group into two pieces? If they were going to split it, they'd have kept the Presto team intact for one group and started up a different group for Blink. Get used to the reality that it just might not happen. Perhaps you ought to demand your money back instead. There are other free browsers out there, but neither they nor Opera ASA is under any obligation to accommodate the browser bells-and-whistles that you, I, or anyone else might want.

Nobody here has said anything related to browser designs or user preferences was a "sin" or "politically incorrect". Those are descriptions existing solely in your own mind. Do try to relax. After all, it's only a browser, it's free, life goes on, and you hopefully still have your health.

They already have split Opera. There's Opera and then there's Opera mini/mobile. Here's an idea: Why don't they stop being stupid and give users the ability to customize it to suit their own personal preference instead of being a bunch of dicks about it.

Here's another idea. Why don't you just go away?! You haven't posted a solitary positive post since you began posting... nothing but whining and complaining. You've consistently violated the terms of service here on these help forums. If you don't like the new Opera, no one is forcing you to adopt it. Continue to use Presto. End of story. And if that doesn't cut it for you, then go away and find another browser that does. How's that for a suggestion? I'm not going to engage in calling you a d**k as you have the developers but it would be appreciated by all if you stopped acting like one. Try and little maturity for a change. Behave yourself.

Opera derives revenue through revenue sharing with its partners. For example, several search engines make usage payments to Opera for searches made by Opera users. This is the major source of income for Opera. Opera depends on its USERS in order to generate revenue. Opera may be free to use but that's only because it is profitable and the only reason why it is profitable is if people use it. This isn't a charity.
