@christoph142
Weather has lots of sites of "its own", photography has a lots of sites of its own, fuck you very much has a lot of sites of its own.
CLOSE THE LOUNGE - it's not about Opera and every topic there has a lots of "sites of its own".
You idiot. You may be banned for that.

@christoph142 explained his reasoning in that thread
To be fair, I amended the second part of the explanation after @joshl attacked me. And I thought about simply deleting his comment at first, but I wanted him to hear from others but me that he overstepped a line there.
@joshl I'm not going to ban you as it's the first time (I guess it's part of being a mod and making decision that not everybody always likes what you do). However, this is a warning. Watch your mouth, please. We're not going to tolerate this forever. You should know better how to behave in here.
If you disagree, kindly ask for clearance.your examples of "other" Lounge topics [...] are not competitor products with Opera
@blackbird71 gets me :love:

He closed a thread for a wrong reason
Although i don't mind someone eventually asking for help on another browser in the Lounge, i don't think his reason is completely wrong.
This is a Opera forum and asking for help in Firefox may be considered offtopic even in the Lounge. And it's not the same thing as posting pictures or talking about the weather.
If you think a thread was closed wrongly you can post your reasons, in a polite way, and they may be taken in consideration.
Calling people names and acting like a spoiled child will not help you and may lead you to a ban.
You seem to get yourself stressed too much because of the forums, you need to relax.

If you want technical assistance for your car, are you going to ask your bridge (card game) league? You may get some sympathy there, but for actual help you should ask the dealer or a mechanic - someone you're sure knows about cars and that model in particular. Other people complaining about their problems won't help fix yours. I certainly can't fault christoph142 there ... and "the f word" is definitely out of bounds.

Black and Leo, that thread, though was also initially meant to ask for advice, but it was only meant to ask for advice HERE, WITHIN our Community.
I'm not interested in chatting with guys on other forums, nor I had a question to those guys.
Second, it was one single thread about Firefox within our Community - as are the threads about Google Chrome in the lounge and the Maxthon browser same there. As well as that one in question has been.
In that thread, nobody applied to any guys on other forums/sites, nobody advertised other forums/sites/services - nor ADVERTISED or in ANY way praised the browser, nobody gave any links to other, non-Opera (competing) sites/organisations (the only exception being a comment made by Leushino - with a working link to a competitor's site), nobody invited any guys from other (any) places to come here (like Firefox enthusiasts, should they have started praising/advertising themselves).
The thread was only meant to discuss another browser (which everybody has on system - every Opera user DOES have at least one other browser) with other guys within our Community, within our Community, in the Lounge.
If I'm not right in one single point I just stated, let me know. -

Christoph, however I appreciate that, there's some reckoning - general one.
Do we have a temporary ban possibility here?
However I was wrong or right, it would be an example if I were banned anyway: it'd show others that nobody's indulged, however monkey they are and however much posting they've made on here. -

If you want technical assistance for your car...
Steve, .
If I meant to actually solve a serious problem at any cost, I'd do that.
The point is, I probably didn't. The simple thing is this is my home, and this is the first place where I go. If a problem isn't solved with my homemates here, I'll probably go where other guys sit - as you (all) have successfully mentioned here.
LONG LIVE THE COMMUNITY! -

...(which everybody has on system - every Opera user DOES have at least one other browser)...
I have only three browsers in my computer: Opera stable, Opera beta and Opera developer (I deactivated IE). I don't use Firefox since version 4 because I had switched to Chrome.

Well, let's detail in the appropriate thread in the lounge ("Browsers"). (I guess nobody's itching to close it too, huh?)
By my point, I meant in general - there's always a minority (however, you didn't delete your Internet Explorer, nor did you deactivate your Ff, so you DO have one or two on your system too!)...

I don't have Firefox installed.
You do have Chrome instead*:P*
Yes, I was mistaken - in detail, but I'm proven right in my point. Sidney, why were you arguing anyway? What is YOUR point? You don't think ANY Opera user has aside issues? We have a lounge - and we have our right to give it a try of solving some 'on the go', right here, not going anywhere from our co-users.
While some guys here seem to want us to go to another place with ANY aside issue? It would have consequences that are apparent to me. -

To be fair, I amended the second part of the explanation after...
It is even less justified.
I was going to say that the poor search is not our problem, but it is.
While your personal convenience with it is not. Moreover, your explanation now can be perceived as ignorance.
Like if you saidGuys, I know you have a poor search. But I won't join my voice with yours to urge to improve it - I'll be closing some extra threads of yours instead.
Pure logic.

The simple truth is this: YOU, joshl, take things far too seriously. Your language was uncalled for and not appreciated by users as well as the moderators. I'm not sure why you think you can do whatever you like and not have to face consequences for your actions. You're very fortunate you were not banned - permanently. That being the case, there really is no justification is using the Opera forums, even the Lounge area, for discussions of how to configure other browsers. If you have FF installed and want to "tinker" with it, the best advice is to go over to the Mozilla forum and ask your questions there. Surely that is not too much trouble as you term it. A few clicks and you're at their forum and will undoubtedly receive far better advice than what you would get here. I really don't see your point.

@joshl, I see a significant difference between a thread comparing aspects of another browser with Opera and a thread asking for details about setting up a competing non-Opera browser. The latter has no inherent connection to Opera (apart from them both being browsers). Using another instance of the dreaded "car analogy", I wouldn't believe it appropriate behavior to ask an Audi service shop for advice on tweaking a Ford engine... but it would be appropriate to discuss with them the pros and cons of the two car engine designs.
In any case, as far as I'm concerned, those who operate and mod the forums are free to set the rules of interpretation and nuance. When a commercial enterprise (of which Opera is one) houses forums, it's more than logical that it would not operate them for assistance with competitor products or to enhance their use. Consequently, it's more than logical that a forum mod would close a thread along such lines.
I consider myself a guest here (hopefully, a helpful guest at times), but I remain always aware that I'm on Opera's turf while I'm here... in their house, so to speak. I'll call them out when I think they're wrong (and I have), but I try to do it politely and in a reasoned way... and if I drift into impoliteness (and I sometimes have), I try to accept correction when it's given and justified (thank you, @leushino).
As you've noted, we're a community... but communities have rules of behavior. One of those rules is not to attack one another with rudeness or impoliteness. I didn't even notice your FF thread in the Lounge until you then came into this forum and erupted with name-calling toward a mod, in a thread I happen to track. I then went to your FF thread, read it, and happened to agree with the mod in his actions, for the reasons I've noted earlier. I recognize and respect that you have a different viewpoint about the nature of your topic and where you wanted to raise your questions - and why. But personally attacking the mod with rudeness for his considered actions is not an acceptable "community" response... in that thread or this. And it was for that reason I expressed my earlier opinion here. My hope is that all of us in this community can learn how to differ with each other (and, indeed, at times with the mods) without resorting to personal attacks and name-calling. There's far too much of that going on already among first-time posters, but we who have been here a while and consider ourselves part of "community" ought to know better.

The truth is, bb, I was out of line the day I spouted off and I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize. I can explain my behavior but I can't justify it.

Well, so was I... I was out of line in my harshness and criticality toward you - for that I apologize as well. The thing I hope I learned from that exchange was that I really need to much more thoroughly think through how I'm coming across before I post... and not to post at all while I feel frustrated about things (here or elsewhere). That's something I've adopted since then, and I think the result has been more constructiveness and less harshness... or at least I hope so. And for that, I genuinely thank you.

I like your words above, blackbird and I'll try to put them to work in my posting. I grew up playing hockey back in Canada and still seem to have that mindset, if you will - being provoked I don't think but drop the gloves and get ready for battle. For many reasons that's not a good course of action. Anyway... I guess we're mutually thankful for that exchange so that's a good thing.

Black, it was the Lounge.
Think of it like I "asked for advice" to another customer being in their toilet room.
I can't approve of you not thinking straight. -

I can't approve of you not thinking straight. Why do you keep fighting? We agree to disagree. This has been discussed now and we mods (and others) have told you that my decision was justified. So drop this now, please.
