      I'm using Opera Mail 1.0 Build 1044 which I think was the latest. It won't accept my username/password, the same one I log into fine with webmail. Its never worked. It sure would be nice if it worked. Anyone else get it working? Or is Google simply trying to discourage IMAP access? Or is Opera Mail just too old a program to interface with Gmail?

          @leocg Yes of course. I'll add that to my OP. Well I would if I could.

            @rh99 Just wanted to add I've enabled IMAP in Gmail. And POP. Neither worked long term.

              @rh99 Which precise build of Mail? The last build was 1044. Mind you, even that is 5 years old and may not be compatible with whatever security Gmail is using now.

                @sgunhouse I mentioned it was 1044 in the first line of my post. Aren't any of you using Opera Mail anymore? If not, what have you migrated to? Thunderbird? Outlook?

                  @rh99 I use webmail, I have an Outlook365 account.
                  I don't have any reason to use a dedicated email client nowadays.

                    @leocg Well many of us do! Hopefully someone here that has also tried using Gmail (or even Yahoo Mail) via IMAP on Opera Mail can give us their tips.

                      Google is supposed to disable regular authorization for logging into IMAP and require oAuth2 which Opera Mail doesn't support. Maybe Google finally did that. I'll check with my Opera Mail.

                        I have IMAP on at https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop and less secure apps on at https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps and I have no problem connecting to Gmail IMAP with standalone Opera Mail 1.0.1044.0 on Windows 11.

                        Starting May 30, 2022 though, the less secure apps option will be gone and Gmail IMAP will require oAuth2 for authentication that Opera Mail doesn't support. When this happens, you won't be able to use Opera Mail with Gmail IMAP anymore (unless enabling 2-factor authentication for your Google account and setting up an app-specific password for Opera Mail still works, which I'm not sure it will).

                          @burnout426 I should have mentioned I'm using Win7. Maybe that's the problem. Anyway its time I upgraded.

                            @rh99 I doubt Win7 is the problem.

                              @rh99 Oh, I use Opera Mail, but unfortunately not Gmail. I could tell you how to set up Yahoo mail.

                                @sgunhouse Not sure what you mean by "setup". I have many accounts already set up on Opera Mail with their retrospective incoming and outgoing IMAP server settings as laid out here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN4075.html

                                Didn't work for me.
                                I think you need Yahoo Mail Pro to use IMAP. There's nothing in Yahoo Mail Setting regarding IMAP or POP access.

                                  @rh99 My ISP uses Yahoo for email, hence I have some "Pro" features without an actual Pro account, The issue though is that Opera Mail is too old to support OAuth. There is a page on Yahoo to obtain a password that can be used on a client which doesn't support OAuth (which can only be used on a single device or program, you'd need to obtain another such password if you were using Mail on a second computer).

                                  My Android devices can access IMAP, I've only ever figured out how to set up POP3 on my laptop here. (for my Yahoo account).
