[Solved]Homepage doesn't open

Have set 'Open a specific page or set of pages' to https://duckduckgo.com/ but always opens up speed dial.

The only time duckduckgo opens is the very first browser window, from there on all new windows open speed dial.

Is this normal?

@meat-axe That option says "start", or didn't you notice? Start only applies to the first window. Opera doesn't include a true home page.

@sgunhouse Yes I understand what start means.
So no matter what, new windows must open with speed dial and there's no way of changing this?

@meat-axe Other than right-clicking a link or bookmark and choosing Open in new window. If you just click New window or the equivalent shortcut, then it will open with Speed dial.

In Opera, goto the URL opera://about and take note of the "install" path. Then, in Windows Explorer (File Explorer), goto the install folder, right-click on "launcher.exe" and choose to create a shortcut on your desktop. Then, right-click the shortcut and rename it to "Opera DuckDuckGo" or whatever you want. Then, right-click the shortcut, goto "properties", switch to the "shortcut" tab, and add a space and --new-window "https://duckduckgo.com/" to the end of the target field value.

For example:

"C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" --new-window "https://duckduckgo.com/"

Then, you can use that shortcut to launch new windows with DuckDuckGo opened in a tab.

If you don't like the shortcut just on your desktop, you can right-click the shortcut on your desktop and pin it to the taskbar to have an extra icon on the taskbar that just opens new windows with DuckDuckGo. And, the new windows should group with Opera's regular pinned taskbar icon. You can also change the icon of your special shortcut to differentiate it from Opera's regular one if you want.

I haven't read through every single thread but surely I cant be the only one who's asked about this. I cant imagine adding a feature for specifying which page you want open on start or new windows would be too difficult.

Either way, thanks again for your help much appreciated.
