An update from an Opera developer would be a lot better to be heard.

@pilis00 Yes, In Chromium 139, they will make a statement when support is officially cut off.

I did receive the following message when I updated my manifest v2 extension early this month:

              Message from moderator:
              Hello,

Manifest V2 is deprecated and MV2 extensions will stop functioning soon.

I asked for a timeline but didn't get an answer. So I updated it to v3 just to be safe.

@wezelkrozum Mv2 add-ons currently available in the store will be protected. Especially uBlock Origin.

                  I did receive a follow-up yesterday:

                  Hello,

I'll request to remove the post or at least correct it. This is informational mistake.

"Starting in June, the branch for Chrome 139 will begin, in which support for Manifest V2 extensions will be removed from Chrome. Unlike the previous changes to disable Manifest V2 extensions which gradually rolled out to users, this change will impact all users on Chrome 139 at once. As a result, Chrome 138 is the final version of Chrome to support Manifest V2 extensions"

We as Opera probably will sync an 139 intake in August/September 2025.

                  Sorry for the confusion.

@wezelkrozum What do we need to understand from this?

So will Opera continue to support MV2 or not? I thought it would, such statement can be repeated here and there, but then I'm confused by lack of any sort of official statements about it.

@Destroy666 We can assume that Opera will continue to support uBlock Origin until further notice.

@Destroy666 said in Manifest v3 Opera:

                          official statements about it.

There was one positive (relatively old, about a year). https://blogs.opera.com/news/2024/10/opera-support-manifest-v2-ad-blocking/

*Also, here I have Edge Stable on 139 version already and uBlock still works. So it seems it's really possible to support even after 138 version if opera is really concerned regarding this.

@andrew84 thanks. I think I've seen that one back then. I'm more interested in current stance and not really onl about uBlock or adblocking. I have like 8 extensions I'd like to preserve. Half of them could be probably forked and just have a manifest version switch. But the less work the better. So I'm looking for the best Chromium-based alternative as I'm 100% not switching to FF as I''d miss even more extensions and I dislike it generally.
