When and will Opera support Manifest v3? If so, in what form?

Will the webRequest API still be supported in v3 like Firefox decided to do?

When can expect manifest v2 to nolonger be available?

In case manifest v3 will be supported, it's very welcome if the store can support both manifest v2 and v3 during the transition period.

Now this is interesting, we are still at Chromium 135 on the current Opera version.

On the other hand, I still believe in that announcement they made almost one year ago, but they still have to come back with another up-to-date announcement, as Chromium 139 stopped running MV2 addons for good.

I think I've seen that one back then. I'm more interested in current stance and not really onl about uBlock or adblocking. I have like 8 extensions I'd like to preserve. Half of them could be probably forked and just have a manifest version switch. But the less work the better. So I'm looking for the best Chromium-based alternative as I'm 100% not switching to FF as I''d miss even more extensions and I dislike it generally.

*Also, here I have Edge Stable on 139 version already and uBlock still works. So it seems it's really possible to support even after 138 version if opera is really concerned regarding this.

Mozilla Firefox decided to handle MV3 a bit different than Chrome to help developers and users:

  • Will the webRequest still be available in MV3 (Unlike in Google Chrome)
  • Will Opera keep supporting non-persistent background scripts?

(When) does opera want to stop supporting MV2 extensions on the store and in the browser? Due to all the issues with MV3, can we as developers ask for extended support of MV2 on the Opera Store? Or allow publishing both MV2 and MV3 at the same time for best backward compatibility?
