Browser Updates

Hi, How can I set the browser updates to install them automatically so that I don't have to do that every time please? Thanks

No , because I always have to check for new version and then wait 5min then restart opera and then the new version is there

Perhaps your firewall is blocking the auto-updater?

Not familiar with that package as such, but see if they have a section in the firewall settings about which programs are allowed to access the internet.

Look in the Windows Task Scheduler for Opera's update task. You'll notice that it tries to update when Windows starts and one other time a day (see in the task's properties for the time).

If you don't restart Windows often, you're not going to trigger the one event. If your computer is asleep or not on during the time of the other event, you're going to miss that one too. In the properties of that event, if that event is missed, it should try again later the first chance it gets. But, I wouldn't rely on it.

I find that Opera rarely updates (or shows that there's an update with the red dot in top left of the window) when I'm using it unless I manually go to the opera://about or opera://update page. I usually only get an automatic update if Opera was closed for a while. Also, Opera doesn't seem to check when it starts up automatically for me as far as I can tell.

So, for me, I just rely on the feed at https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/ for when there's a new update and then manually goto the about or update page to update when there's a new build.

You might be able to modify the task to repeat a check every hour or make use of the --scheduledautoupdate command-line switch (depending on what user you run Opera as). Or, you could set Opera to automatically open the opera://about page on startup so it always does a check. But, currently that check might not work on startup unless you refresh the page.

So, long story short, make sure you're not just experiencing missed checks for updates.

Ok thanks for your advice, but let it be and do the update manually
