Until last January, I had been using Opera as my default on my work computer for years. Then I got a new laptop and just never got around to installing Opera, until now. Then, as I installed it, I was immediately pissed-off.

Regardless of the behaviour of Google, Microsoft, Adobe and their ilk a they f*** with my system, why did I see Opera set itself as my default browser, without my permission, when I installed it?

On installation, why does Opera auto-set itself as default?

If you had clicked on Options in the installer, you could have told it not to set itself as default. They think they are just trying to make things easier for new users, so they import any data they can from your previous default browser then set themselves as default. Pretty much all browsers do.

I have that same problem every time Opera is updated. Not only that, but it also changes the default program I use to open PDFs. A well-behaved browser would not be so presumptuous, in my opinion.

@doclocke How Opera is updated? If it's done through auto-update, no change should happen.
If, however, the update is done by running the installer, then it will follow the installer options as said above.
