@goultysoul Are you logged in to Sync in the new installation? Not the site but the service.

I'm trying to add various search engines to use as a default search engine. I've added Dogpile, Swisscows, etc, but I cannot find a way to make that the default browser. All I see for options are the biased search engines I want to avoid - Google, Bing, etc. Is there some trick to getting Opera to set a default search engine I actually want to use?

@looking4help Only pre-defined search engines can be set as the default one.

This is one of those topics that may have to be approached "from both sides", i.e., from the Opera side and the Startpage side.
I am trying to make Startpage my default search engine. I add it to the list of search engines, but, the option to make it default is greyed out.
Any thoughts?
Latest version of Opera Version:84.0.4316.31 (x86_64).
Mac Pro running OS 10.14.6.
Thanks.

It looks like Opera is not going to be my go to browser. Thanks anyway. Best regards, wnlewis

For years now every so often I've noticed websites are somehow adding themselves to my speed dial. For instance, just 10 minutes ago I noticed that "Unicef: something, something ukraine" has been added to my speed dial; never visited it before or even googled Ukraine on this computer.
What gives? Is there an option somewhere to turn this stuff off? It's become irritating enough that if I can't stop this from happening I'll most likely find a new browser, as much as I enjoy Opera.

How do I make Ecosia my default search engine? I've tried adding it under Manage Search engines but it does not seem to want to move up to the suggested engines.

I added my own preferred search engine under "Other search engines" however the browser doesn't allow me to set it as the default search engine. The option to click to select the search engine as default is greyed out. I have posted three screenshots below of the browser search engine issue and a third with system information and browser information at the end of the post.
Steps to reproduce:
1.) Add a search engine that isn't included in Opera Browser by default.
2.) Attempt to set as default. (Not possible.)Expected behavior:
1.) I should be able to set any search engine I add as the default search engine so that when I type into the search box at the top-right of the browser or in the address bar box it will use the search engine I added and specified.Opera version: 85.0.4341.60

@7syntax-error Not a bug as a search would had told you.
Only pre-defined search engines can be set as the default one.

@leocg Thank you. I never thought a browser would restrict what search engines we can set so searching never crossed my mind. I didn't think any browsers restricted that and I did think it was a bug.
Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to change the search engine on the Start Page, I was trying to change the search engine to a custom one I added in the address bar and search bar, not the Start Page.Regards.

I was wondering why there is no Home button added to Opera Browser so we can go back to our home page like all other browsers out there.
