[Solved]Deleted desktop icon back on every update

@sgunhouse I have the same problem and submitted a bug report. I have NEVER had a desktop shortcut installed (I do not like nor use them); however, starting a few weeks ago, Opera updates insist on installing a shortcut onto my pristine desktop.
Tell me how to fix Opera's update bug.
Note: I assume it's a bug because I've been using Opera for over 20 years and it's never done this to me before. It'd be a shame to quit using it for such a lame bug.

Haven't tested, but I'm wondering if you can edit installation_status.json in Opera's program files directory and delete:
"SC_DEST_COMMON_DESKTOP":"C:\\Users\\Public\\Desktop\\Opera Browser.lnk"
from the "shortcuts" object. That might stop updates from creating the shortcut again.

Good idea. Edited that and waiting for next update.Like some other people, I also never enable/install desktop shortcuts and from some time ago Opera started putting it on my (or rather all users) desktop - I consider that a bug.

@burnout426 By default, Opera is installed in the system "For the current user".
Therefore, I find only this way:"SC_DEST_DESKTOP":"C:\\Users\\User_Name\\Desktop\\Браузер Opera.lnk"

Update: Opera updated, icon is back, again on all users desktop. F-word here. I need to find another solution.

It's been a month. My bug report has been ignored. The problem remains. I will now abandon Opera after using it for over 20 years. I will not tolerate abide the dishonorable owners of this browser any longer.
To all who remain, g'luck. (You'll need it in spades.)

Last developer build didn't create a desktop shortcut here during the update.
I can confirm. The update to 64.0.3409.0 for Opera Developer didn't create a desktop icon on me where the previous build did. Might be fixed (at least in v64 builds) now.

@burnout426 I simply deleted the file (installation_status.json), and it works.

Every time I open Opera (v. 63) a desktop shortcut appears. I do not need a shortcut, so I delete it each time. Then it reappears the next time I open the browser. If I do not delete, a second shortcut will sometimes appear, but not always. What can I do to prevent this happening? It started after a recent update. Using Windows 10 Home.

Because some not very useful beta things have reached the stable, but not this...

@icehawk Why report a bug that was already fixed? Just want for the fix to reach stable channel.
Every time I run 65.0.3425.0, it puts its icon on the desktop (Win10). Fixed?
