What do you mean by "fails to display"?

Exactly that. Just a blank page appears; no warnings, no error codes.

Here I run Plex Media Server, that runs in localhost and it displays fine in Opera.

Are you pointing to the correct port?

I run Wampserver and, since all 5 other browsers have no problem, I doubt the port number is a problem. Because I'm a developer I use 6 browsers to test how my software works in each environment.

I should say that Opera did display as expected for some time but, for no apparent reason, stopped. I haven't installed any new software for six months or more. The only changes have been Windows updates.

And you didn't enable the VPN or some other proxy? Since the proxy's host is not on your system, you can't see localhost with the VPN enabled.

@oldcelt Try the portable version of Opera so you can test with a fresh Opera profile. If it works there, you know it's just something funky with your normal setup. https://www.opera.com/download#portable

@sgunhouse I do use a VPN (Surfshark) but not the built-in Opera one. All other browsers have no problem with that and I've just tried disconnecting the VPN but Opera still won't show the page.

@burnout426 Surely, I'd need Wampserver or similar on my mobile in order to set up a localhost server?

The portable version just installs to a folder on your desktop for example. It has nothing to do with mobile.

You said "on my mobile" - what version of Opera and on what type of system are we talking about? You posted in "Opera for Windows", not one of the mobile forums.

@burnout426 Sorry, when you said portable version I assumed you meant for a smart phone or tablet. What is the portable version and why would you need it on a desktop?

@sgunhouse Confusion has arisen because @burnout426 suggested installing the portable version which I assumed referred to a version for mobile phones and notepads.

I don't know why anyone would want a "portable" version on a desktop.

To be clear I'm having the problem on a desktop running Windows 10 (fully updated) with Wampserver set up as my localhost server. I've uninstalled Opera completely, including my data, then downloaded a fresh copy and installed it. The problem persists.

A portable install is an install that can be made to removable storage, such as a USB key or SD card, All user data is stored with the program so that if the device were used with another computer it would still work and have all your bookmarks and settings. As this implies the program wouldn't be using any data from your previous install, it is good for testing purposes..

@sgunhouse Thank you very much - I was totally unaware of that. I'll give it a go.

Just installed portable version and it works fine. Many thanks!
Still cannot understand why it's stopped working in my standard installation?

Can I import all my Speed Dial settings?

Most probably an extension or a broken profile.

Did you try resetting your settings?

Did a complete uninstall including my data. Re-installed and, yet again, the problem remains! ☹
