Uninstall Opera makes Microsoft Excel 2013 not working Properly

Hello there,
As the title said it, when I uninstall Opera from my workstation at work, it makes Excel 2013 not working properly.
Im using an internal software that sometimes require excel to open and run it in the background (i don't do the action to open excel and minimize it, it open automatically in the background). This problem happened since i uninstalled Opera (i was qualifying the browser with some tests before using it).
The errors messages that I've are those one when the software needs to run Excel:
-1st error message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator"
-2nd error message (right after the first one) : "ERROR in GlobalSpecs.read_worksheet: cannot find – Home – worksheet!!!

In order to resolve this problem, i uninstall properly Opera and selected th option "delete all my user data": it doesn't work.
I tried to uninstall again Opera and set IE as my default browser: it doesn't work properly.

So i don't know what things i can do to resolve this (big) problem.

Infos that can help to build a diagnostic:
-OS: W7 Pro SP1 embedded edition
-first of all i installed Opera 53.0.2907.99 then uninstall it (i kept my user data)
-then i installed Opera 36.0.2130.65 and uninstall it after --> Excel problem begin to appear
-I cant do a clean up of the registry because temporary data are loaded in them and they changed often. Those data are VERY important and mustn't change at all when i run my program so im kinda blocked if this problem appear when i lunched my software and i don't know when errors messages can pop up.
-When i open Excel manually, it works well.

So temporarily i install back Opera to avoid it.

If you have any clues or met this kind of bug before i would appreciate the share of informations about it.

Try fixing your "internal software", Opera has no way of fixing anything it doesn't know about.

Does it have to be 36 or 53 installed to avoid the problem? Or, it doesn't make a difference?

If you delete or rename "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera Software" while leaving Opera installed, does it still avoid the problem? If not, then it probably is indeed something in your Opera profile. If so, then it probably has nothing to do with your Opera profile.

After uninstalling Opera, did you go into Default Programs and make sure Excel has all its defaults associated with it?

Oh, it has nothing to do with the profile...

Opera seems to have been set up as default protocol handler (in the registry) or something similar. The user would need to install some other software or otherwise repair the registry since Opera's uninstaller isn't fixing it.

You thinking something in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\OperaStable\Capabilities\UrlAssociations" that excel normally handles that the 36 installer put in there that uninstalling it or any Opera doesn't fix? Current Opera stable doesn't seem to put anything in there out of the ordinary. But, I vaguely remember that Opera used to put something in there that shouldn't have been.

@sgunhouse I can't fix the problem in my internal software because Excel is needed to write and read data. If Excel is not running, there is no program so. I'll say Excel is the "main frame" of the software

Yeah, i checked some times that Excel has all its defaults associated with it

@sgunhouse I rather think something change in the registry. At the moment I'm doing some snapshot of my registry with and without Opera installed. I will let you know if i see something different in the keys

I checked this registry and nothing change. As i said in one of my answer, I'm currently doing snapshot of the regedit table.

So, I did my reg snapshot and this is what changed in the registry tab when I installed Opera.

I think the reg keys from the line 37 to line 46 could change something in the functioning of Excel.
Furthermore, the lines 48/49/50 and 83/84/85 are really strange.

".oex" is the file extension for Opera's extensions, while .htm, .html and related extensions are obviously HTML files and should open with a web browser. The ddeexec stuff is how another program can open Opera Mind you, I don't know if anyone still uses DDE (Direct Data Exchange), but I guess Opera still supports it.

Yeah, thanks for the infos. This is the first time that I've no idea of what the problem could be and what could i do to resolve it. It's the same as swimming in the darkness for real

You can record registry differences with https://sourceforge.net/projects/regshot/, it allows to create registry change scripts too. Much easier to compare than export files.

Yeah, i saw something changed in those registry key. After "reseting" those key (I put back the value htmlfile) nothing changed. When i loaded the program I've the same error messages. I will explore further yanta's link.

For testing, you could delete Opera-related keys/strings one by one while testing after each delete to see if you can narrow it down. I'd start with the StartMenuInternet ones.

I'd also look at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" and check the extension keys for any extension that might be handled by Excel/Office (like .xls/.doc etc.) and check their OpenWithProgram IDs or Persistent handler IDs to see if Opera (or its ID (do a search for the id)) is listed there. I'd also look for excel-related keeys in "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT".

It will take a while to test, but i think it's worth the try. I will keep you in touch of the progress
